May 17, 2006- Work on the book has come to a halt as all editing (professional) has been done. There is work currently being done to get The Ark published, hopefully by TOR. Any questions about the book can be asked here, and i will answer them as promptly as possible. This is not an official bungie project. Click Here[ /url] to download a pdf version of it. Actually, right click and save, otherwise it won't work. The following material is the original post from way back when, so if you're looking for the more recent stuff (that has been modified from reading the beginning works), please visit my website, which is in my signature, or click the link above to download a pdf version of it. Please do not ask for the last chapters, as i will not send them to you. Any and all news will be posted whenever it comes up, and i will say so in the subject heading, with the appropriate page number and date. Chapters are generally posted weekly, though i discuss each chapter's release date beforehand so confusion does not ensue. If anyone knows anything about the Halo 2 book, or what comes after it, let me know. Cause if nothing's happening with it, im gonna write it. Here's the prelude to halo 3(?)... Prologue Ninth Age of Reclamation/First age of Rebirth Yielding Righteousness/ Current Flagship The doors opened as the Arbiter walked into the Grand Chamber, seeing rows of his brethren. His Sangheili. They all uniformly bowed down on one knee, their heads to facing the ground. The Arbiter turned to his Spec-ops captain, now the general of the armies, and said, “You never told me there would be this many.” “I thought you would like being surprised, Arbiter.” He showed a grin, at least as best a Sangheili could. They started walking through the main aisle, with an honor guard walking behind them as protection. The Arbiter felt that the presence of the honor guards was not necessary, but understood the honor they must feel to be here, especially now. Walking past each new row allowed all to stand in that row, which alerted the Arbiter of some discrepancy. He turned his head left, and saw several rows of Lekgolo, their massive bodies gracefully rising as he passed. And further ahead, even more rows were filled with the small Unggoy, who fidgeted even while trying to keep their composer. And they all were bowing. He looked back at the Lekgolo, shocked at the amount of them in one room. He had never seen so many, and they could easily overpower the entire ship if they wanted to, but they also didn’t carry their normal weaponry, which attached directly to their arms. The Arbiter forced himself to look away so not to draw attention to himself in any negative aspect, for it could ruin his purpose here today. They climbed the ramp up to the stage, where the honor guard behind them went to the right side of him, and to the left he saw another waiting for his arrival. The Arbiter went to the front of the stage, and the Captain/General stayed behind several steps. He looked upon the crowd, understanding that the future may rest upon their shoulders. The chamber had fallen dead silent now, and the Arbiter scanned the room once more. He stood tall and came to the very edge of the stage. “As you all know, I am the Arbiter. I have been chosen for this… this honor, by our previous leaders. However, there may be those among you who believe that their word is heresy, regardless of when it was said. And because of my rank, my position, I will become the leader of our group, our new covenant. If anyone disagrees with my appointment as the Arbiter, speak now.” The chamber stayed noiseless, but faces animated and expressions came to color. The Arbiter looked back to his Captain/General, who nodded to him. Suddenly, one Sangheili stepped out of his row, and yelled, “Long live the Arbiter!” As the Arbiter turned back to his audience, he found that he was deafened by the cheering of his name. A wave of relief struck him, and he held his hands to show silence was required. Moments later, it was so. “You all honor me with this privilege, yet I must postpone our celebration for another time. This meeting is one of urgency, where three important things must be discussed. The first of which being the creating of a new Grand Council. After this meeting, all not stationed upon the Yielding Righteousness are to return to their home planets to decide on the council members.” “Our next goal will be to secure as many Huragok as possible. They are a necessity on every ship, world, and army. If we can take many away from the Prophets, it will give us a strategic advantage against them. They will undoubtedly be attempting the same, but we cannot allow them to take any Huragok, or the upper hand will be theirs. Do not forget their usefulness, even in the heat of battle.” The Arbiter sighed, and looked up at the lights, then directly into the holocron monitor, which was projecting his face among countless worlds. “The final article is something that has come into my thoughts several times during these past few days, something I would like express to you. The Prophets have always asked each race to join the covenant, or even allow them honorable submission, but not the Humans. These Humans are a strange race, yet nothing about them is notable in any sense with the exception to the demon. Regardless, it makes no sense for the Prophets to ‘fear’ these Humans. But I understand why they do. I have fought and killed them, as well as fought beside them as allies.” Whispers appeared throughout the room, and the Arbiter raised his voice to overrun them. “Wait!”, he yelled, and the chamber’s only sound was the Arbiter’s echoing voice. “Through my experience with these Humans, they fight with the same honor we would, use clever tactics as we do, and will die for victory if necessary. And now that we are not at the prophet’s side to protect them, they have much to fear of the Humans!” Cheers wailed throughout the room, and a group of Unggoy began jumping up and clapping. The Arbiter allowed the crowd to settle down by themselves before speaking again. “From now on, if you should see a Jiralhanae, Yanme, Kig-yar, or a Prophet, you are to conquer them, and show them who truly is strong.” He smiled as best a Sangheili could. “Even more so for the Kig-yar, if you know what I mean.” Laughter broke out, especially through the rows of Unggoy. The Arbiter walked off the stage, followed closely by both honor guards and his Captain/General. Suddenly the laughter turned to applause, as the Unggoy yelled, and the Lekgolo and Sangheili bowed again to one knee. The Unggoy followed suit quickly. With each passed row, the rising covenant would chant “Long live the Arbiter!” The Captain/General whispered gently to the Arbiter as they walked down the aisle, “ It would seen that you left a good impression with the covenant.” “No, we are not the Covenant anymore. We are the Preeminent." If you guys like this, let me know, I have about 10 more pages written, in no partucular order, and can post them if anyone wants to read them. [Edited on 12/17/2006]

 • Hahaha Alright Sir Brilliant, I'd do basically anything to get into the acknowledgment section of the book, and when I say basically, I mean something that the Catholic religion approves of..... Message me with anything I can do to help you out (and maybe reserve a spot in your book along with others who have been a major support and help). :) [Edited on 8/10/2005]

 • Im pretty good w/ kids as Ive babysat little kids a few times. The main idea is to lightly punish them so they dont think they can get away w/ anything, but still be nice and talk to them and such so they dont feel that you are a 'big, bad, scary adult' and hence see less of a reason to disobey you. Anyway, we have an old family friend that is an author (the mom of a kid my mom used to do day-care for when I was little and didnt go to school) and I could see if I can ask her more about copyrighting and any of her advice to give to you. I'll have ask later for the phone number though, because my parents arent home right now.

 • hahahah Sorry, I completely understand. I'm the oldest with a couple of brother and sisters, so I know how kids can be brats. I completely understand about your story and your need to move quickly. I just thought if you gave a couple of agents a call, since they are in the business, they may have an idea or two. They ofcourse would want you to go through them, but in the interest of bringing you onboard for any future books you may have, they may be willing to work with you or point you to someone within Del Rey/Bungie. I would still PM Frankie. Put in questions in the Weekly update just to try and get his attention. Have anyone on here that is willing to, submit the same question on the Weekly Update. This would do two things: 1) attempt to get his attention 2) show him how may people are interested in the novel you've written. Sort of like an email or post petition. Just a few thoughts. Well, off to bed. It's East Coast time here and I don't have any brats, I mean kids to contend with. :) Ciao Everyone, Mark D.

 • its funny you mention that, cause that's one of the things the guy i talked to today said. that i could also get an agent, but then i would have to make sure the story was completely edited and perfect...that could take a while to do, and i don't exactly have that kind of time. the sooner i get somewhere with this, the better. if it is dealt with completely before the end of summer, then i am successful. but longer than that means that it might never get done. Think of it this way: bungie is working on halo3. someone is writing the halo2 book. if i want to be part of this experience in any way, the only way is to do it as soon as possible. otherwise, they will just say "oh well, too late." if it takes until halo3 is ready to ship, then of course i'm screwed. if it takes half that time, then i'm screwed. of course, i know a few people who could try to help me out with literary agents who would be in touch with editors, publishers, etc., but my main concern for the moment is getting it copyrighted. if it gets stolen and published, then i'm going to be so pissed...that things i don't think i can mention on this website would happen. so i'll deal with that, and talk to anyone i can about every angle i can take to approach bungie/microsoft about the book. And of course, i'm still accepting any and all idea's anyone here comes up with. Bearing all this in mind, for my next book, i probably will do it that way, just so it doesn't end up like this one. i doubt i will base it on a video game, as i actually started writing it before i did this one. its short right now and only in writing, although i have high hopes for it...sometime in the hopefully near future. Once something comes out of all this, and i can start to write again about other stuff, i'll be on it. And i'll let you all know whats going on with it. maybe i'll even post a few teaser chapters just so you can see what its like. damn, and i'm babysitting these kids tonight, who refuse to go to sleep, one because she says she's scared, even though i've done everything i could to calm her down, she's just friggin crazy. and her older brother refuses to go to sleep because "he can't". and now they're calling their mother, whom i told them not to call, and now she's saying that she's afraid cause these men outside were taking a moonbounce away. WTF!!!! this was supposed to be a cakewalk. now i have to listen to their crap...she wouldn't tell me what she was afraid of, and now absolutely nothing was solved because i'm dealing with little kids. AHHHH!!!! then she gets off the phone and smiles at me. little -blam!-. called her mother cause i told her not to. [Edited on 8/10/2005]

 • Ok SB, here is what I found when looking around for contacting Del Rey. The are actually located under Ballantine Books, which in turn is owned by Random House. Here is what is listed on their site for getting a manuscript looked at. Manuscript Submissions Random House, Inc. does not accept unsolicited submissions, proposals, manuscripts, or submission queries via e-mail at this time. If you would like to have your work or manuscript considered for publication by a major book publisher, we recommend that you work with an established literary agent. Each agency has manuscript submission guidelines. You may wish to refer to The Literary MarketPlace (the LMP), a reference guide that contains a listing of literary agencies. It can be found in most libraries. Another excellent source is The Writer's Market, which you should be able to find in a local bookstore or library. You can also visit their Web site at http://www.writersdigest.com for more information. They have several email addresses and links on the page, as well as an address and phone numbers. You should definitely get your manuscript copyrighted then give Random House and maybe one or two of the agents on one of these lists a call. If nothing else, you could talk to them about what you have and what you want to do. They are going to want to bring you on as a talent, so you should be able to at least find out a bit about how the business works. I would still attempt to contact Frankie or one of the folks at Bungie because they may know who deals with the novels internally and that may be a different avenue to explore. What do you think? Mark D. Sorry, forgot to add the two Random House links: http://www.randomhouse.com/about/contact.html http://www.randomhouse.com/rhpg/about/faq.html#submit Random House says they only accept manuscripts through an agent. "and when the time comes, they will know my name, and i shall smite thee." actually, that sounds more bible-ish. lol, oh well. can't say i didn't try. btw, the quote above should be sounded out in a very deep voice. otherwise, it sounds like an idiot talking.

 • I'll try thinking up some strategies, Im very good at being creative and thinking outside the box. Btw, EAGLES, once SB gets his story copyrighted and whatever else he needs to do, I think that would be the ideal time for your army of spammers to each message Frankie in a polite and intelligent manner.... hell, I'll join in too, anything to help. • wow, you guys are friggin awesome. but for the moment, i'm going to let it sit...until i have the story itself copywrited(copyrighted, however you spell that stupid word). i'll have that done in 2 days time, just cause that's how long it takes. of course, i do need to be able to get the attention of bungie, microsoft, del rey(the company that published all the halo books) or whomever is capable of dealing with this and me. I don't know whether spamming the guys at bungie will be the best of ideas, although i don't know exactly where it will lead you. All i know is that i haven't ever been able to get in touch with any of them, but i obviously haven't spammed them like crazy. anyways, i've been thinking of any marketing strategies that i could use that would be helpful to gain the attention necessary for bungie/microsoft to say "hey, even if that isn't our story", or "hey, its good but we don't see any reason of publishing it," then these things would give some incentive so they would reconsider. So far, i have about 3 or 4 things (being that i can't recall them all, and i keep switching two that i keep forgetting) that would be plusses, and i havne't found more than 1 minus. if anyone can come up with ideas, post em here and let me know, or IM me if i'm online. i don't think i'll be available tonight on aim cause i'm babysitting 3 kids, all of which are sleeping now. and its only 8 here...oh well, more alone time on the intarweb for me. so i'll be here...let me know what you think. and if anyone is on and they wanna play chess or something, let me know cause i'm bored, and don't really have anything to do for the next couple of hours.
