IGN slams Destiny and TDB

http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/12/18/destiny-the-dark-below-review Hear that Deej, Bungie... That silence is the sound of shrinking market share. I can only assume investors are already jumping ship. If that happens, or is happening, what happens to that $500 mil budget dedicated to the Destiny franchise. I guess the angry voices do indeed outweigh the fandoys you were hoping could save a sinking ship. Edit: So I've sat back after posting this to watch the waters churn. I'm impressed with the feedback, but I'm not shocked this thread got a lot of attention, positive or negative. People can bash me, the article, or the game as much as they like...point is, I didn't post it to start an argument! I posted it more or less as PSA...in the hopes the attention this thread MIGHT receive gains the attention of someone we've ALL been longing to hear from. Keep the chatter"white" coming y'all.

  • I agree with the OP and the ign article and I think at this point, Bungie, everyone's point is clear. ...

    • Haha I'd have given the dlc a 4 or 5. 6 is being generous. If I'm going to pay for dlc (for destiny) I want at least 12 missions (because you can beat every mission in like 10-15 mins max) 6 of the missions ghost can't scan anything. Bring some new style of a mission to the game. 4 new hive enemies, 9 cutscenes (maybe actually show a video of Eris and her team, some history of the hive taking over the moon, Crota and oryx etc.) at least give us a beginning and an ending cutscene to the story. (Could be 2 of the 9 cutscenes) Scrap the pvp maps they dropped and give us 4 actually decent maps, preferably not so noob shotgun fusion friendly, with more open area and less small hallways to open up opportunities for sniping in PvP (I'm guessing maybe 15% of people have used a snipe in pvp), but small enough to be competitive. 3 new strikes because they're honestly just a mission with a mini boss. (Make the strike bosses different and unique not just a bigger for example servitor or knight) And another raid for free in the future because this one was too easy and terribly short.

    • IGN never has a good review and it's always done by somebody that doesn't spend much time with the game. Destiny is fun. It's not a game for everybody but a lot of people like it. People need to stop copying what other people are saying and come up with some original opinions. People are posting this article everywhere but the dude thinks you can do Crotas End with six 28's. Don't listen to people that don't know what they are talking about.

      • "The main reason to do these is to increase your faction standing with Eris in order to purchase new cosmetic items and…that’s about it. She’ll toss you a new weapon every now and again, but for the most part, she offers little more than meaningless stuff to grind for, and Destiny already had plenty of that." Meaningless stuff? I don't know why this chump writes the reviews for Destiny at IGN, he clearly doesn't like the game for his own personal reasons. Not to mention he doesn't seem to understand the depth of the gear/gameplay balance this game achieves. Dude is like super into Diablo....

      • Let's remember that IGN is the same entity that gave the Pokemon remakes mediocre scores solely because of "too much water" and "too many HMs." So, who gives AF, it's IGN. Learn to make your own opinions sheeple.

I honestly wouldn't care about grinding if RNG wasn't so shitty for me and great for everyone else.

The co-optional podcast (with Total Biscuit) . From 29:00 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_6LSOYRVKw A good discussion on Destiny from serious MMO players. (A note: I have never played an MMO before, and the next time I hear a game has a whiff of MMO about it, I will run for the hills).

        • I see another whiner thinking IGN isn't a money thirsty company, easily bought out (And it was, an "Anonymous group")... Talking about all the "Overwhelming majority" that is the loud trolls, while jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else discounting the ones that like it...
I don't give a -blam!- about your opinion, you don't care for anyone else's. Don't even change your attitude just to try and act high and mighty, GTFO troll.
I like this quote.

          • Hate to tell you but Destiny had an extremely successful launch, and now Bungie can appreciate any type of publicity as of right now, whether it be good or bad. Ironically this is probably the best thing to happen to a big game like this... And let's be honest for most of us it's the trials and tribulations that we learn from the most. Not the successes. IMO all of the disappointment and negative criticism is derived from a deep root of loving this game. That includes me. Some logistics need to be fixed very soon and if they don't fix the lackluster story then we've got a problem, but Frankly it's way too soon to sink ship. Peace.

          • The raid sucks , already glitches and exploits out of the ass for the whole raid , the story missions sucked and they weren't even part of the joke of a story we had but part of some 3 eyed lady randomly showing up giving you the most boring quest I have ever seen , everything you did in destiny doesn't mean anything because anyone who buys the game Tm can be Lvl 31 in a day with better gear then you , all the new exotic weapons and from what I seen most armor suck , the amount of content we got in this so called big expansions is pathetic and bungie shouldn't be allowed to ever make a game again , they believe by making you re lvl up all your guns and old gear ( pointless cause next dlc you'll have to do it again ) you'll still play , why are most people so upset ? Because of how much bungie hyped this game up , they said this isn't a dlc but an expansion , they have proven they are pure thief's at heart , I feel 60% of the budget doe this game went to advertising alone . Do I play the game yes. Do I enjoy it yes. Because I like any game with co-op pve , will I keep playing yes. Will I ever buy another bungie game No, this game could have really been amazing man could have been the best most addictive console game in history and they completely trew it away with lazy disc cutting dlcs and horrible story .... Bungie I do not feel like a legend but more like a sheep.

            • If it takes you "a while" to find out there is something new in your game, you either lack attention to detail or you're an idiot. And this is ign we're talking about. We all know how awful they are.

              • All these gaming review websites are trash. They either push their own social justice narrative or get paid for reviews. I take none of them seriously. But Destiny certainly has problems and they keep on missing lay ups. Grinding and Story aren't the main problem it needs content and a lot of it, simply more pvp maps and game types would go a long way as well as the option to skip maps like Cod.

                • A 6 isn't crippling. It isn't great but it won't destroy the franchise, be realistic. Unfortunately I doubt this changes with house of wolves. That seems planned out already for the most part and, while I expect them to take positive baby steps like the far more coherent story in dark below, I doubt we'll see sweeping changes to the dlc until the one after.

Yup I'm sure they're crying over one article that actually have their DLC at a pretty decent score of 6/10. Btw they only have one investor, activision and they're here for the long run, with millions of active users I'm sure they're pretty happy.

                • Well at least the IGN article did not let the expansion go easy. Ripped them with the truth. I hope somewhere right now, a Bungie employee is reading that article and reevaluating their decisions. Or sniffing the money. Whichever they choose.

                • I think that the article does have some validity whether or not it came from ign or not. Beings up good points that we as a community should be wanting more. I love Destiny, but we should all, as a community want more.

                • They've already made that money back within the first week of launch. The rest can either go into the new games or 100% profit.

                    • "The Dark Below is a huge missed opportunity, a mish-mash of recycled ideas and content that fails to reinvigorate Destiny or address any of its biggest problems. The new raid is great, and the combat is as strong as it was before, but the new progression systems are limited and ultimately unrewarding, leaving me to wonder where Destiny will wind up if this is a sign of what’s to come." Whatever your feelings are about IGN This is a perfect summation of how many people feel about the DLC. There's lots of us out here who still play but that doesn't mean we can't be critical of the things we dislike about the game. The game has a strong mechanical foundation but fails to give engaging content to build upon that. For some, logging on and shooting shit is all they want. A lot of us, though, would really like something deeper. And we hold onto the hope that Bungie will deliver that at some point. I'll still play, but I know that the game could really be much more than what it is.
