The meaning of life is not a question that can be answered because asking the question makes no sense. In case one in which there is a God, only God can ever know the meaning of life as such a concept would likely be beyond our mere human understanding, until we die and meet God himself thus allowing him to make us understand, if he chooses to do so. In case two in which there is no God, then you are presupposing that life has a specific, intended meaning, which presupposes that there was a creator to give life said meaning, which (in this case where it is known that there is no God) would be impossible.

God has already told us what the meaning of our life is. It's in one of his books. If you truly want to know which book, ask me. If you would like to do the research yourself, then all the better for you. God would never put us on this earth and let us wander without knowing what our purpose was, that would be cruel. And God is not cruel. He is all-merciful, most-compassionate.

EDIT: To clarify, I did not make any statement regarding whether or not I believed one case to be preferable over the over, nor did I state that a universe with meaning is any better or worse than a universe without meaning.
