exotic reset. guess you've never MMOed before

Would you rather not have the option to keep your exotic gear relevant? That's the alternative. They provided a system to bring old gear into a relevant standing with new higher level gear available. "I have to play the game more to be max level? WTF? I am max level now, I should still be max level even when the level raises." Leveling=grind=the basis of evolutionary tree style games. You're kind of making yourselves look stupid community, very unbecoming. Get your elbows off the dinner table.

  • I don't think mmos typically allow upgrading old gear...

  • No I want my cake and the ability to eat it too! Lol jk I honestly don't care because the base damage from my upgraded to ungraded remains at 300

  • I dont think anyone is complaining about wanting to "play the game more to be max level" because we're all going to be doing the raid to hit 32. I don't think your brain has the capacity to understand what other people are complaining about. They are complaining that their time was rendered useless in comparison to new players. Which would mean that bungie is giving new or casual players a shortcut to enter the same playing field as someone who has been playing since launch. It feels unfair to the people who played MMO's before they worked hard to get where they are at now. Now for them to be told that your hard work was useless, feels like betrayal. And no i dont think you ever played an MMO before. They never offered shorcuts this quickly in any MMO. If you can't comprehend, then good luck in life. PS - I could care less. I'd much rather have more people in the end content of this game. ONLY 15% of all players have completed the normal raid? That is sad...

    • We have to erase our progress on a weapon we've already upgraded even though the weapon in question only needs a little more damage to remain relevant. Give me one good reason why they couldn't just put in a couple more damage upgrades on the skill tree instead. Neeext!

      • I'm unsure if I'm in disagreement with your point. Part of me loves that I will be given further room to grow and a fresh roll at my exotic gears, the other part empathizes with people who only have a few hours a week to play. Any way you dice it I feel like its cheap to just look at the legacy of rpg's as justification for a design decision. What they chose is IMO a perfect middle ground on exotic's. On the other hand I find it abhorrent that so much content is being relegated to a place that makes the gear sub-par for endgame pve scenarios. If bungie were listening I would say this, I want my gear to grow with me. A great gun should be a starting point. I spend hours and hours looking for something like fatebringer, only to have it become outclassed? I want my gun to become part of my legend, as it should be. I see a gun like the last word and the history woven into it, and I appreciate the weapon in its own right. But I want to write my own tale, and should the darkness ever take me leave behind something worthy of being sought after. I don't know how to tell you guys how to do that.... I think your already figuring it out for yourselves. I am looking forward to what's next... The pool of options should GROW with every update.

you usually only lose one little perk when upgrading armor. it's different in destiny though.

      • Plenty of people don't understand this kind of gearing system. I'm surprised we even get to upgrade our exotics since expansions tend to make old gear obsolete. I get the thinking behind the reset, regardless of whether the gun functions the same, we are still trading in a weaker exotic for a stronger one and that's the point of the reset.

Aaaand the real problem goes right over your head. It's not the grind that's the issue, it's this:
Players who turn in a freshly dropped, untouched exotic get access to the exact same upgrade as ones who turn in a maxed exotic. There are no benefits to turning in a maxed exotic, no XP carried over, nothing. Some people even spent EXOTIC SHARDS upgrading the first generation exotics only for it to be a waste in the end. That is the true reason why many players feel wronged.
Understand, now?

          • Why don't they just give us extra nodes... I'm sorry, but MMO's let you keep your progress when they expand, they jsut give you some new stuff you can buy. But since Destiny's level system is based entirely on gear, 100's of hours of playing time have been invalidated by a piddly little update, that does not happen in MMO's. -blam!- this system and whoever thought it would be a good idea to create some more time sinks for us. ARTIFICIAL CONTENT FTW

            • I would like to ask everyone how long it really takes them to fully upgrade an exotic weapon or exotic armor. It only takes me about a week to fully max an exotic weapon, and I don't even play every day, at least not hardcore. I mostly do the raid, some bounties and then I usually play another game unless there are friends on or some sore of special event like iron banner. I have about 12-15 exotic weapons but I only level the ones I enjoy or are useful. Are people angry because they are unable to level weapons up again? Or are they angry just because they don't enjoy grinding? A lot of people like me actually enjoy grinding a little bit... Or are people upset because they don't have the resources (glimmer, strange coins) to upgrade weapons? Remember that you are upgrading an exotic to essentially get one of the strongest weapons in the new expansion. It wouldn't make sense to give that to you without time/resources spent on your part. Are people mad because they have to get the perks al over again? I really don't think that's a big deal and it's a small sacrifice to make to once again, get one of the strongest weapons in the game.

              • There are other ways to keep the gear relevant without negating all the time that has already been put into maxed exotics. Just think on that before calling everyone a "whiner." Also since I paid for this game and Bungie has asked for this type of feedback I'm going to let them know that the current system is garbage. Let me make this clear though we are fine with the idea of making our current exotics relevant in the expansion. It's the way they're going about it i.e. working your way through all your perks/abilities again. Some of us have quite a few exotics and are collectors so we'd like to keep all of exotics relevant but the time and mats required for that would make for a painful grind again. An yes I know that an upgraded exotics leveling is increased. Also Destiny is not a MMO it has Mmo elements which has been stated numerous times by Bungie.

                    • Could have just added more nodes and made them match the XP required to max out the gun. You still need to max it out again but you don't lose your progress.

                      • Exactly... in so many of my favorite games the level cap was raised and i didnt feel the need to be butthurt about it, nor did i feel butthurt about getting new stuff... hut i will say on the weapons part you should be able to upgrade legendaries too, especially if theyre going to add in stronger legendaries, and some of them could be ones we have now. Not really complaining about it though, i want murmur and im gonna be working in that nechrocasm.

                        • Usually with RPG DLCs, they make you grind for the new gear, Bungie is giving us the opportunity to keep our original gear and grind on them instead, there's nothing wrong with this, that's just being generous. Most RPGs make you throw away or make you stop using that awesome weapon you found because the ones in the DLC are better.

Lets not talk about the exotics, those raid weapons you got from vog, the faction weapons. They cant be level up, they will just sit there in your vault, taking your space. Now, would you dismantle them all?

I admit I was one of the nay sayers against the current exotic upgrade plan. I'm still not a fan but have accepted it in hopes that it eventually evolves to something more clever and unique to Destiny and Bungie's original stance that they want players to develop stories and relationships with their exotics of choice. Personally, I feel the next iteration of exotic upgrades should build upon player's current progress. That progress should not simply be reset and the player asked to relevel the exact same weapon/armor. This goes completely against Bungie's original stance that they want players to have a story behind exotic equipment. In an attempt to bolster Bungie's original vision and foster a true relationship between a player and his/her exotics, I feel a better upgrade option would allow each player to customly add upgrade options to their existing weapon/armor as each DLC drops. An example of this would be an instance where players take their fully leveled base level exotics to Xur and purchase weapon/armor cores (specific to the DLC purchased by the player) for each specific exotic. Once purchased, this opens an additional modifier column on the weapon/armor by which a player chooses a single modifier from 3 possible options that -- in turn -- upgrades the weapon with whatever perk is selected in the column. This selection becomes fixed and each subsequent DLC allows a new upgrade column (again, unique to that specific DLC) with new possible upgrades added to whatever the player currently has built on his/her exotics from previous DLCs. This is just one idea but one that I feel is far closer to the original intent Bungie proposed in terms of players building actual stories and strong ties with their exotics of choice.
