what's the best weapon (besides a shotgun) for the crucible?

Pretty much everyone has it now, but it doesn't seem like its the main gun running Crucible. People are still using Auto Rifles pretty universally, with a few exceptions. If you've got a TLW, I'd seriously consider running with it in Crucible. Alternatively, pretty much anything in the Shingen series is good. Suros is another strong option. Of you raid a bit, VoC can be converted to be what is essentially a miniature Sniper Rifle. Failing those, Vanquisher and Shadow Price have similar stats to the Regime, and are very good options. Both are available from faction vendors. Best weapon is really whatever matches your preferences and play style the closest.
