The human space ships in Old Russia

I have not found any discussions or comments regarding the human built space ships visible everywhere in Old Russia. Why the heck are there three spheres at the top of them?! As an engineer, and great space and technology enthusiast, I cannot figure out how that would work aerodynamically or structurally with such large and heavy objects at the very tip of the space launcher/rocket? If you don't know what I'm referring too, please see this image: http://levelsave.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/10428155_10201189743225847_3616688132077688219_o-600x300.jpg Or this one: http://psgamer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Destiny-Beta_20140717222900.jpg Or the fact that they greatly resemble the Traveler?! I'm still stopping in Old Russia to just look at them trying to figure out the reason behind their design and function. Edit: Ah, 50 replies :) I thought there would be some interest and discussion on this topic! Thank you for chiming in. Would've been great if one of the game designers would share a hint or logic behind the design of these space launchers. Edit 2: Does anyone have access to fluid dynamics or aerodynamics simulation software? Simulating those three spheres on a simple space launch body would provide insight into how it would behave.

  • I have skepticism about their function as well and every time I see them a cringe just a little bit when I think of the craziness of their design. If you look at this from a practical standpoint there is no reason to build such massive ships on the Earth's surface, even with the most advanced and efficient liftoff system imaginable it is monstrously wasteful to build them on Earth. It makes far more sense to have them built in orbit where you could ferry the equipment and materials via orbital elevators. I mean one way you can explain it is that the ships never actually "blast off" from those launching pads and that they are instead simply loaded there and then "transmatted" or otherwise moved into orbit. Remember when they were built the Traveler was still at the height of its power and humanity had some pretty phenomenal technology apparently
