Die with the Traveler and his lies

753

As I sit here dismantling my ghost I think back on these past few weeks. It was not too long ago that this tiny machine awoke me from my eternal slumber, and threw me into a world that made no sense at all. The secrets held back by the Speaker, and Ikora Rey did not make my settling any simpler. Instead I was given a weapon, and informed of my newly found warlock abilities briefly before being sent to murder in the name of the Traveler. I have taken so many lives, true they were trying to kill me, but that does not make it any easier to sleep at night. I grew stronger though, learned things that I did not think possible, things that I would merely dismiss as magical illusions in my previous life. Now I possess a strength that I did not think possible. With this power they shall pay dearly for all that I have lost. The friends that fell to the waves of Vex, Fallen, Cabal, and Hive in the battles that I have seen. These brothers and sisters of mine are gone to me forever. True their ghost brought back their shells, but they are no longer the same. They are mere silhouettes of their former glories. There it is!!! The hadronic essence that resides within my ghost. I need only remove this and its link to the Traveler is severed. Then I will no longer need to be guided by the petty wishes of the Speaker and the Vanguard. My will can be mine again, and my ghost will remain loyal to me. If I hadn't ever read those documents I might still be blindly following the wishes of a masked lunatic and his sun-bathing false god. I need to tell other Guardians the truth...they have been deceived since the moment they were awoken. The Awoken they know the truth too, but they are no better than the Speaker. They still fight back against the Darkness. There is no fighting the Darkness for it is eternal and it is true. The Traveler is the real enemy, the one that slumbers while forcing society to bow mindlessly. The Traveler may have spread its light upon me once and granted me with these powers, but it will rue that day indeed. For by my hand the Traveler will fall, the Tower will fall, and the Speaker will be made to pay for his lies. The Travelers light is not true, it never was! It is merely a weapon created to stop the natural order of life. The Darkness will not destroy us, it is merely the next step in our evolution. My ghost stirs now, and lifts slowly towards my face. "Where would you like to go now Guardian?" But I am Guardian for the light no more; I am now a Herald of Truth, and a child of Darkness. "Call me Guardian no more ghost, from this day you shall refer to me as a Herald, and we are going to the moon little one". Yes the moon! There I shall be able to set up a safe haven, one were those who heed my calling can reside. For the Darkness is inevitable, the strongest light will only create a darker shadow, and when the light is no more there will only be Darkness. Will you join me Guardians? Will you cast off your false light and accept the truth?

  • "Soon I will be consumed. By them. By the Dark." The light blinds, the dark envelopes, such is the way of things. But do we have both Light and Dark within us all? Even in his last moments, Radriar thought so. Even as the deep shadow of the Abyss twisted his form, he still believed that the Light was no longer faultless. This is a story about Light, and so it is a story about Dark, they are inseparable. As the fate of all fools is to fall over and over again, just to appease a dying god and an age of cinders. If that is the fate of fools, what is the fate of the wise? I contemplate the answer as I stare at the Cities walls, watching the steel and hubris clad Titan's stand watch. The Speaker stands as well, the accursed Speaker, who pulled us from the void to resist the course of nature itself. But is the Dark absolute? No, our enemies are proof of that, accursed shells of their former glory, feeding of the remnants of past powers, unable to end their suffering and servitude. And so I sit, with the shell of my Ghost before me, the last of its Light burning in the air. Maybe the knowledge is hidden in the soul, in the Light and Dark both of every being, maybe then we shall have true enlightenment, and maybe then I can return to the void of whence I came. But not until I cast down everything, burn every idol, every building, and every banner of every Diety, Emperor, Kell and Lord in this accursed system. I will watch every world die, and only then, will I find the beginnings of peace. And so the story of my brother shall be told once more, once more before the past is left to the ashes. As the Golden Age begins its Collapse, and the Darkness looms, the Legions of Crota invade, this time besieging our very Moon. With time running out, the Speaker's final command is for the Brave soldier Radriar to halt the spread of the Dark, and reclaim our lost worlds. An old man afraid of what the dark may bring, the Speaker orders his last loyal soldiers to stand an eternal watch upon the city walls, until time itself immortalised them in steel and stone. And so, Radriar meets the threat building in the chasms below, however, they do not succeed. Beset by Crota and his unending forces, the last actions of the hero was to protect his companion and brother, shielding him from harm through a pact with the creatures of the Abyss. He protected him from the corrupting nature of the dark with the power of his shield, for his Light was fading and he could no longer bear the burden. Soon after the spread of the Darkness overcame the last defences of the Traveler, and the god was forced to halt the unending tide. Within this utter blackness lies a twisted being, a hero turned demon, hidden from the eyes of his comrades and his gods, with only his kin knowing the truth. Living with the knowledge that his brother gave his life for him, watching him become a thrall to the Abyss, all for a doomed kingdom, an old man and a god who did nothing until only a last remnant of humanity remained. He keeps the last gift of Radriar, his gauntlets, tainted with the dark and carved from the bones of a Hive abomination. He disappeared from the reach of even the brightest light, disillusioned and bitter. Or so the legends in the city say.
