I hate farming planet materials

Legendary gear - 80 materials Exotic gear - 64 materials It probably takes an hour to farm 70-100 materials, big whoop right? But did I tell you it's going to be the most mind numbingly boring thing you've ever done? Edit: Alternatives, buy with glimmer or marks buy with coins or motes earn via missions; amount scales by difficulty earn via crucible Material bounties Trade weapon parts or class materials for Earn during patrols and public events Edit2-update: You know it's boring when your ascendant materials out number your planet materials 451 ascendant materials 182 planet materials I even have more strange coins than I do planet materials... Edit3: Math Will take you 21.76 hours to farm 1,632 materials if you're gathering 75 per hour on average. To hit level 29 it will take 304 materials if you have one exotic piece. To hit level 30 you will most likely replace those pieces with raid equipment. That's another 240 (304+240)3 = 1,632 1,632/75 = 21.76 21.76 very boring hours This is not taking weapons into consideration.

  • Add bundles of them to strike / daily mission reward for respective planets would be my suggestion. That way you get the mats for actually doing stuff. Or have them come from scrapping blue and purple gear. Or just add a vendor? What else can we spend glimmer on anyway? There's only so many ammo synthesis packs you need. Chest farming =/= content.

  • Materials should be rewarded for doing public events like 5-10 and 1-2 mats for completing a patrol mission.

  • There just needs to be more variety to patrols is all, potentially slightly elevated rewards. Stuff like "defend a position", greater frequency and level scaled assassinate a VIP missions, assassinate a VIP and ONLY a VIP (no other kills during the mission allowed, call it "send a message" missions), etc

  • I completely agree. Grinding in the rest of Destiny can be bearable because the gameplay at its core is fun. Running around from cave to cave to collect materials is boring as hell. I like your ideas for alternate methods and have thought of the following ( I will likely repeat some of yours). Increase the amount of materials we get out of chests significantly. Let us buy the materials for glimmer. Let us buy the materials for strange coins or motes of light. Have patrol missions on planets award the materials from that planet. Enemies on planets should drop the materials randomly as loot. Using a combination of these methods can let us get the materials we need quickly and in a more fun way. Currently there is nothing fun about grinding for materials. NOTHING

  • I feel you brother(or sister). I wish strikes from the playlist rewarded 3-5 upon completion. Venus strikes give blooms, earth strike gives spin metal, etc...

      • I rather do farming and shoot things at will and complete bounties and do patrol than do the same time consuming low reward strikes.

        • I agree kinda, I don't mind Farming Mats, but there should be other ways to gather it. They could just add a Material Vendor. I had to Farm the Moon and Venus today both. It's not bad but does get a bit tedious after awhile. I like to Farm mats when there is a Bounty Patrol. But the last couple days it's been Patrol Mars or Patrol Cosmodrome. So I end up having close to three hundred of Relic Iron and Spinmetal and almost nothing in Helium Filaments and Spirit Bloom

        • The farming runs certainly speed up the process but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a chance of this stuff dropping every time we killed an enemy. It would make patrol way more rewarding then just the odd public event or few marks from the missions.

          I used to hate farming helium but after farming spinmetal........ Like seriously, at least the moon and mars has lots of chest hidden in random caves or buildings but Old Russia has nothing. None of the caves or buildings on Earth have chest in them which easily doubles the amount of time it takes gather the amount you need. The only highlight of farming spinmetal is that extraction crew Public events (that yield no rewards) will just pop out of nowhere when no one is around to help. Garbage

          • Giving 2-5 per patrol would help a bunch. And raise how many you get from collecting I have 3 jobs 28+ I hate to see just 1 material

          • All Spawn Caves should be available to players, including the ones that are deep inside buildings during Missions and Strikes. I play the Strike playlist a lot, and I wouldn't have to waste so much time farming materials from Patrols if I could get an occasional treasure chest in the Spawn Caves that are currently walled off.

          • When I am doing patrols and bounties I just go for every area I know there might be a chest. I have never had to "farm" for these as I have always had enough of any given material to level a weapon or armor piece. I have probably leveled 10-15 legendary guns and just about as much armor, plus about 6 or so exotics. The vast majority of the materials I have do come from chests though rather than nodes.

            It doesn't take me that long to farm material. I can easily farm over 50 materials in 20 minutes by using the instance method. A method where if you pick up mats in a certain order then leave the zone and comeback, they respawn right where they were picked. But even using that method still fells tedious. I'd prefer spending my glimmer for materials especially since I only use it to by ammo synths.
