So yeah. I have no idea what's going on or what this means, but Bungie needs to explain it.

6 RepliesEdited by silencer: 10/8/2014 9:27:34 PMHe is using a sub par, low impact weapon for his level. And especially for anything over 27ish. He is being normalized in IB like low level mobs are in PvE, or due to the miniscule impact value, his damage is being modified by a factor that is too small to affect anything. His test would only be viable if he used weapons with the same impact value but different attack values on the same opponents. I don't remember if a purple with such low impact even exists. All of this assumes he is in range. Remember, Light levels, anything past 20 aren't actual levels, they are a gear score bound to defense value. Only within a very narrow gap in PvE you are not scaled, I want to say it's ~3 levels, but can't say without certainty. And yes, level 26 would be at maximum damage potential with a weapon that has an attack value of 260-270. In IB, everyone seems to be treated like a mob if they are bellow this range it seems, meaning that if you out level your enemy by that magic number of 3-4 levels with your attack value, your damage is normalized. Likewise, his damage to you is normalized. Again, same thing like fighting low level mobs in PvE, they can still kill you good. Naturally this means that the damage penalty for anything that out levels you does not exist. Or, in short, IB means that you get more of a challenge (and are a bigger threat) to players close to your own level range and you have to use a weapon with an attack value to match that to see any results. There is a ceiling too AFAIK, a hard cap for the factor impact is modified if your gun has an attack value way higher then you and your peers. Anything outside of that is normalized, just like in PvE. And just like with any other factors, the bigger your impact value actually is, the more punch. ARa are bound to see way lesser results then say scout rifles in most cases. In the regular Crucible, just impact is taken into account. It is entirely possible that is what happens if attack needs to be scaled up, hence the same value. This video means nothing. IB is meant to be a challenge high level players playing other high level players, but it is not meant to be a killing field for anyone bellow 27. Regardless, any PvP mode puts skill first, this is just a twist on that, not a ganking ground. Just like PvE does not let you steamroll low level content. Because in effect, those are the mechanics used in IB.

14 RepliesI stopped playing IB after about the 3rd or. 4 t match. I had noticed my patience and time completely leveled took 2 shots on a level 20. I thought this was odd, given the 9 level gap between him and I ( I'm 29 ). The very next time he respawned, we dueled again with snipers, only this time he won. It took two shots from his sniper. I checked his items, and it was some blue random sniper rifle. At that point, I realized IB was Crucible with a different name.

15 RepliesThey need a mode without radar lol

2 RepliesBungie, plz fix the iron banner!
-
It says 24 damage per headshot in both modes, but does it take as many shots? In Iron Banner, the titan went down after 3 or 4 shots, but the hunter in crucible needed 5? There's a difference ^_^
-
14 Repliessucks for you i could tell huge difference between the iron banner and the crucible
-
3 RepliesI have to think to myself that if they had made the differences great, then they would have had to have set the matchmaking up to group people by level and that would have made the differences small again. Which would put you back in the same boat that you are in today. So in the end, the IB wasn't what you expected it to be but it is what it would have been regardless. Nobody would play in the IB if they had no chance of winning. So if anything you should be thanking Bungie for not separating out the lower levels and thereby maximizing the opportunity for you to have a less laggy PvP experience.

5 RepliesHehe just out of pure curiousity i played one game yesterday and have seen a level 5 running around the rion banner and nicely competing against a level 27 .. so regardless of ANY Mathematics.. IF Iron banner would be somehow noticable take into calculation your level and that of your gear then that level 5 would have been batshit on a stick more dead than alive the whole time.. but he wasnt doing so bad so i guess .. screw this.. iron Banner doesnt make any noticable difference either out of PC for low level players or just poor design.. either way its another messy "refurbished part of the game that has been sold to the audience as something new"

1 ReplyYup Iron banner is a lie
-
I'm here.for my.clan mate plablu
-
21 RepliesYea, the Iron Banner is a lie. When lvl 15s are competing with 29s it really shows that gear isnt a factor at all.
-
2 Repliesthe reason it was hitting 23 some times is because damage drops due to range. check this vid out if you want to know how broken iron banner is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgCJjNjZl28

9 RepliesEdited by Toomstone: 10/9/2014 5:03:44 AMNO, your assumptions about how the game works are wrong. Here's why: 1) Armor does not mitigate damage, it adds to your health points. 2) You are using a weak weapon that deals it's max potential damage in both Crucible and Iron Banner. It won't do more damage in Iron Banner, because that's it's max damage and it already does it in Crucible. 3) Your weak weapon sometimes deals 23 damage in Both the Crucible and Iron Banner because of the range from your opponent. 4) Damage values are a combination of Attack and Impact, but they still have a max damage ceiling. You need to find a weapon that is NOT dealing it's max damage ceiling in Crucible already in order to see it do more damage in the Iron Banner. 5) The real test between Crucible and Iron Banner is the number of shots from the same weapon that it takes to kill the same person with the same gear. You literally need to find an opponent who you have killed in both Crucible and Iron Banner with the same weapon from full health and count the number of shots it took to kill him. 6) The number of shots you can take in Crucible is higher because all players of all levels have their defence equalised for fairness, meaning every character has the same pool of Health Points in Crucible. 7) The number of shots you can take in Iron Banner is lower because your defence is no longer equalised with the highest possible defense, meaning your pool of health points is lower, so in general in takes less hits to kill you.

1 ReplyI found this out after farming for hours to get my vanquisher maxed out using up all my acendent energy that I wanted to save for exotics. 32 a headshot in both the iron banner and crucible. Regardless of wether I'm shooting a level 20 or a level 30
-
I just went into iron banner using the white gun you get at the beginning of the game. It has 20 attack, I was doing 18-19 damage per shot to the chest and 28 per head shot. Then I shadow price the damage was only 2-4 higher. All done at lvl 28. I'm beginning to think atk doesn't mean much of anything.
-
1 ReplyMaxed out Suros with 300 attack, 45 damage crits...
-
Better test would be to have two of the same gun, but have one upgraded all the way and then check for differences. Also counting the dmg it takes to kill a player in each class and game type would be useful info.
-
5 RepliesIt’s says level advantages not weapons. This means that the weapons will do the same damage as they do in crucible, but if you have played Iron banner you will notice that higher levels will take more damage before they drop due to the armor coming more into play, and lower levels take less. Regen is faster too. The only thing wrong with the iron banner is titans and there armor, you come up against a level 30 pray you have your super up.

If Bungie was going to be so lazy they could have just made the IB level 25+ to enter. That way they could do the least amount of work but say its for "high level elite players!"
-
2 RepliesLol, clearly. Sorry the percentage scale isn't to your liking, but 23 doesn't equal 24, they are actually different numbers.
-
He makes a good point, but I'd have to say my exotic shotgun kills better in Iron Banner than regular Crucible.
-
Edited by OLYMPUS VI: 10/8/2014 11:56:30 PMThe maximum damage output for that gun is 24 and requires at least level 26 to hit that amount

25 RepliesEdited by AnyOLName: 10/8/2014 8:49:49 PMFrom reading, the level advantage is not what you are thinking of. The level advantage is a weighted level system, kind of like what we have in PvE. For example; When you are a level 28 in the Cosmodome, the mobs get a boost to damage and you get a decline in damage because of the level difference. It seems to be the same in IB. The lower levels get a boost to damage while the higher up get a decline. The closer the level are, the less the advantage/disadvantage gets. This keeps the game from being dominated by high levels.

4 RepliesEdited by Knuxr: 10/8/2014 8:20:52 PMArmor in the game is not for damage reduction, it is your HP essentially. So you will take the same damage from the same gun in both game modes. The key factor is how much damage you can take until you go down. People need to understand the mechanics of the stats before they start complaining about it. Datto goes into depth here with stats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgoDqz1ZnvA&list=UUkmAjbIecTIjTQctolYeuDw Edit: Weapon damage should be different however. Someone should do some in depth playing and look at the differences.
-
7 RepliesYour not taking into account that someone with higher armor may not take damage reduction but just have higher health. And if this were the case, then it would make sense that you would do the same damage, but it would take longer to kill a person who is lvl higher in iron banner because they have more health
