i havent recieved any raid gear myslef, but seeing as to reach level thirty you need either four raid peices or three raid peices and one exotic peice it would seem that they have the same light capacity. back to what i was saying about raid or exotic gear, it starts with a base light level of 21 where as the iron banner gear has a base light level of 18 which is the same as regular legenary gear. given those facts i think its safe to assume that the iron banner gear will not carry enough light to achieve level thirty.

I have (1) Raid chest, (1) Ext Helm, (Lg) Legs, and (Lg) Arms, not 30 yet ... so I can say you need exactly what you said to be a 30. You are right about the mis information though no one, I mean NO ONE can confirm the Iron Banner gear ranks the player to 30 ... it would be helpful though ...

Raid gear starts at a base light of 18 just like normal legendary gear. The reason it gets more light is because it has one more upgrade than normal legendary armor. If the iron banner gear has an extra upgrade, then it would be possible to hit 30 with it.

Isn't it the amount of shards it takes to upgrade. Legendary take 6 shards per slot, raid armor takes 7 shards per slot, exotic take 8 shards per slot

You're correct. Raid gear has the same base light level and upgrades. The reason it takes you to 30 is because of the 7 shard per upgrade cost.
