Constant Caterpillar/Centipede disconnection errors although these didn't happen prior to patch

Bungie, you should be ashamed. Three bloody days of continuous disconnections at the WORST of times, during strikes, during loadscreens, hell, even when I'm just browsing stuff in the tower the game instantly decides to kick me off the servers. I haven't had ONE disconnection issue in the past, NOT ONE, until you decided to release that bloody patch last week. Thank you for proving that even a veteran studio with IP's like Halo behind it can be a complete and total screw up. This is appalling, you would imagine your patches to stabilize the game. NOT BLOODY CAUSE MORE TROUBLE. As I said: prior to the patch, no D/C's whatsoever, since the patch: at least eight times a day, very annoying. It is not my problem , it is something the oafs at Bungie failed to completely think through. Slow clap, Activision is already getting to them.

  • Hey man, same general problems as you. I think a part of it can be NAT setting. I had to use my laptop to dig into my router to change some settings, (I have a roommate, we both have to connect to play). Long story short I had to mess with my connection settings, create a static IP. Go on my comp, DMZ it, and start enabling ports to my static IP address. There are some pretty good website after a light Google search. Hope it helps, also uPnP had to be enabled. After all this I played for 5 hours to catch up, no problems whatsoever.

    • If the firewall in your home WIFI router is enabled, try disabling it. I have a longer post elsewhere on this forum explaining the background for this fix, but suffice it to say, my own experience now points to Destiny servers being quite stable. It's the filtering going on either at the ISP level or within your own router causing the disconnects.

      • I get every disconnect code on a pretty regular basis. Before and after the patch! Very Frustrating! Been told I need to get a newer cable modem. Though I'm not convinced that its on my end.

        • I'm having the same problem disconnected every 10-15 min so if I want to do a strike which generally takes 45 min if u want any good rewards for completing it better try and skip as much as possible o wait u cnt cuz IV seen every cutscene about 493 times and cnt skip them so that cuts about 2 min out of my 10 so I cnt ever finish this is bs so IV decided I'm going to try and play once a day and if I get booted or any error message I will quit and try the next day I personally think and I'm sure 99.9% of the destiny community that this is happening to should get something out of this like maybe a server for just us or something special that no one else has cuz IV probably missed out on all kinds of stuff because bungie had to break the game with the update I had no problems like this through the beta or up until you did the first update I recommend that you get this done or you will lose a lot of customers cuz everyone IV talked to about how the game is IV told them it was great if you actually get to play

I would disconnect from xbl constantly for at least the first week of Destiny, although my router stayed connected to the internet just fine. I tried connecting wirelessly and wired, but neither would keep me connected for more than a game at a time. My xbox was my only device that was having connection issues, so I tried connecting to XBL through my laptop since it never loses its connection to the internet. I haven't had any connection problems since. If you know how to connect to xbl through your laptop, it might be worth a try (Especially if you're connecting wirelessly at a University). It's kind of an antiquated method but it can be advantageous depending on what type of router/gateway setup you have, and who your ISP is. Edit: Also, this method worked for a friend who was having the same problem as me. I'm curious if it'll work for someone else. If it does, please let me know.

            • FYI, Lizard Squad is taking credit for taking down Destiny servers with a DDoS attack. https://twitter.com/LizardSquad/status/513405598621511680

            • I can't even get to the tower.. It wouldn't be such a big deal but all weekend I haven't been able to get to the tower. I work I go to school and only get my weekends Fri, Sat, and part of Sun to do anything. The agent of the nine shows up on Friday and stays through Saturday and I can't even get to him to purchase anything. It sucks. All I want to do is get a piece of exotic gear and I can't even make that happen. I really enjoy this game, but if there is one thing these guys need to fix it's the connectivity and server issues.

            • I didn't get the game until Monday (that's about when the update was, right?), but when I tried loading up, I would get constant Caterpillars. I had to install via dashboard, and rush through character creation. Now I can't get past the intro level.. "I hope you know how to you this thing.." due to Caterpillars. It's disappointing to not hear much of anything from Bungie other than "It's probably on your end.." Especially since I'm at a college on the ethernet and can't change anything on my end....
