Does anybody realize that Destiny is far from over....?

Just wondering if there are people out there that realize that what we've played so far.. that 20+ hours you've put into this game so far is only the beginning? That the reason the "story" is lacking is because there really isn't one right now on purpose? That all we've seen so far is a brief introduction into the massive world Bungie is opening us up to (and a damn good introduction at that)? This isn't Assassin's Creed where you play it for 4 days, get through the story and be done with it. I honestly think we've only experienced a tenth of what Bungie has in store for us. Being an intelligent consumer you have to know what you're in for, the $90 I spent on this game is not for a 16 hour story and some silly side quests. It's an investment in a franchise from a company which brought us the likes of HALO. Let's have some sense comrades. I look at a lot, not all, but a lot of these complaints and when you break them down people are, in essence, complaining that they haven't played and seen everything the game has to offer yet. Bungie, over the next days, months, years, will be giving us more to play, see and do. Did you people play WoW or Skyrim for a couple days and then cry? No, because you realized that those games, like this one, are far from over after intro. I also realize that some folks are never happy. If Bungie had introduced to us from the very beginning, 4389142 gun types, 4378 enemy types, 76 different planets and such, there would be those that after racing through all of it in a week would still be unhappy. These are the people I pray for at night. I'm saying all this to basically say we need to give Bungie time to reveal to us what they have up their VERY LARGE sleeves. Stop whining about paying for expansions when I bet most of you bought all the Halo DLC when it was nothing but, if my memory serves me right, multiplayer map packs.... nothing to evolve the story like it is in this case... but different maps to shoot each other on... C'mon son... Let's give an ENORMOUS game like Destiny more than a week to prove itself.. I mean hey, you beat CoD in 10 hours and then shoot each other on the same maps for half a year before complaining.

  • You're saying I paid $60 for half a game? I don't CoD. Most games I've played have enjoyable, engaging narratives that last at least 20 hours, usually more, and leave me invested in the world and the chararcters in it. I enjoy the game, but I don't get why people have such an aversion to recognizing that the story is poorly presented and way less than what we usually get for $60.

    • I realized how much more like an MMO this game is than I thought while playing, many people didn't and of the complaints I agree with I only wish they did a bit more storytelling in the game. Honestly provide a way to access the grimoire in game and many more people will see how much story there is. Bungie took a very Dark Souls approach to the story and some of the things I've read is really cool, like the time Nathan Fillion bot fought hordes of hive side-by-side with a Fallen Captain. That stuff is awesome and I love it, but it is a bit of a hassle needing to use Bungie.net to get that story.

I can see where you are coming from, but for many people the game is a giant grind which isn't what they had expected. Personally, I didn't enjoy the multiplayer which was the longetivity of the game for me. That's what made me return it.

      • Well said and I agree Bungie wouldn't slight us like this, with a half assed story. However, to play devils advocate, it seems the gaming industry, as a whole, are releasing less and less with the initial product, charging an increasing dollar amount for that game and then charging more for DLC. I can understand the frustration some gamers have with this model.

Couldn't have said it any better, I'm not a PC gamer so never got into WoW or any other MMO's, but I have a feeling the DLC's for this game will be unreal. I'm thinking new planets, story expansion, more vehicles, more levels so the soft cap isn't 20, etc. the possibilities are limitless, but the first week were bound to find grievers and un-warranted hate. Oh well haha let them return the game and in less than a month this forum will be packed with people that wanna team up to beat all the new strikes/raids/missions...

                • I've personally come across several areas where there are pathways that obviously will lead to future areas, venus is full of them (there a column that leads up to the giant structure in the sky, it's surrounded by a vex shields, there is also a wall which also incorporates a vex shield, rather large wall no less. there its VERY obvious there will be further areas and storyline, and judging from the special event release schedule i think we will be getting new experiences once a week,

-_-* I'll soo laugh, if there's like 10 extra hours of story, not including DLC. You just have too find and unmarked guy on Venus to continue. Forcing you to explore. Bungie's STILL being tight lipped, even after release. They've something big instore for us.

                  • THISSSS All of my this. I'm so sick of people complaining about the story. The MMO aspect of this game is what makes it amazing. There is no limit to how many new raids and different missions they can release in the future.

                    • No. Cause people are idiots and judge a book by its cover. All these websites that are giving this game a mediocre overall rating blow me away. I'm sure most of these people that work at these websites played WOW from the beginning and also called that repetitive and mediocre but however many years later the game still has a massive following. Over time Destiny will be a masterpiece, But for right now just ride it out cause I almost guarantee you this will be one of the most successful games of this generation.

I see your point, and agree with it, but Antrim is not a good comparison - You could play Skyrim for weeks and still not see everything that is unlocked, on the disc, since day one. Edit: Skyrim. Although I'm sure an open world RPG set in Antrim would be the bee's knees.

                        • Another thing to remember is that if you compare Destiny story to WoW, yes in terms of length it lacks, but also know that the game mechanics are totally different. And even though Activision has given them a lot of funding to develop this game the type of game they are making and the developmental resources are not easy to find. You may have a vision, but finding the right group of people to make the vision come into sight is a very difficult task. Bungie has a smaller team compared to say Blizzard and they are making something with a MUCH higher fidelity in regards to gameplay mechanics than what WoW is. AI is more intelligent, your character has hit spots and so do the enemy among much much more. So in terms of length yes, it's shorter because rendering such higher level graphics, developing for 4 systems takes A LOT of time and a lot of man power. Be patient, let the game grow. And what we do have is pretty amazing in itself guys. Understand the industry to appreciate what you have. It's like when you were a kid you took everything your parents gave you for granted, but when you start working you realize how much of mom or dad's paycheck went directly to you, and how hard they had to work. Peace!

                        • A lot of the complaining has to do with the fact that we know way more content was designed for the initial release and the only reason it's not available is Activisions greedy asses insisted on it being released through DLC. We've waited for years on this game only to get a piece of what should have been delivered in the first place.

                          • ENORMOUS are you F*&king kidding me! If you did a speed run, solo, ignoring side quests and only using pickups you could smash through the main story in 5-6 hours. Now i dont know you but i want a LOT more story in my game, they said it would be an epic story but so far i havent seen anything really that outstanding. I thought this game would be a MMO-RPG with shooter combat, yet the best part is the actual combat but the missions get repetitive, story is lame and the RPG aspects are a joke, an RPG lets you have control over the story and the narrative, this dosent in anyway. May be Bungie should just stick to making linear shooters.

                              • It might have more in the pipeline, but will enough people still be playing to appreciate it by the time it rolls around? Unless you're hanging out with friends, the game is boring as hell. Once the friends all get jack of shitty drop rates, a six-map playlist with 20min bullet-sponge boss fights, they start dropping out and falling away and you're left playing with randoms and strangers which is much less fun... then you stop playing.

                                  • You hit the nail on the head with this post. Destiny is a full-fledged business endeavor. Activision has given Bungie an insane amount of money to keep this title going for the next ten years. Their business model for developing a game per se has evolved. I expect the online transactions and updates to be far better than the status quo of map packs, camos and guns. I suspect that the world(s) of Destiny will continue to expand in accessibility. New stories will be opened up to the community and this title is going to pull itself together and play itself back like a movie in our minds. If any of you out there reading this remember Halo or still play Halo, you probably still remember the essence of the plot and the story line if you've played any of the titles. The thought of it gives you a warm and fuzzy. MasterChief became a special entity for those of us that followed the story. We get hype just thinking about all the great things we did as him. Now Bungie is giving everyone a chance to become their own Legend much like Master Chief and win in their own way.
