Destiny punishes explorers.

I am a huge fan of exploring when it comes to mmo's. I love to get to the highest, and hardest to reach places possible, just having fun. However I've been punished by Destiny by being killed when leaving the edges of the poorly defined play areas. And it happens so quickly, mere seconds after accidentally leaving the designated play area my guardian is killed, leaving me terrified to walk over the next hill, in fear of restarting my bounties that call for no deaths (like earn 9000xp without dying). If you're going to have very limited areas for us to explore with poorly defined boundaries, please give us more that 4 seconds to return to the play area!! By the time we realize we are out of bounds it's too late, "GUARDIAN DOWN". It labels the death as "misadventure", yeah it is, only because I was executed for exploring! There are so many wonderful looking areas to explore, but it's all feels like an illusion now.

  • I agree, I had the same issues while exploring certain areas. There are some particularly enticing spots on Venus that caused me to die immediately and have made me gun shy to explore other areas of note. I am curious to know if misadventure deaths affect your stats, but I would imagine they do.

I have been a fan of exploring games since the early 90's, although that really took off with halo 2. The ability to get outside of the maps and roam around looking at all the scenery was the only thing that had me pouring hours into that game for its entire lifespan. When Destiny was announced I seem to recall hearing something along the lines of "if you can see it you can go there" whereas now it is out its more along the lines of you can only go there if bungle wants you to. I could care less about a k/d ratio or my game stats, and the majority of my playtime has been spent hurling myself up hills, at invisible walls and off of the numerous cliffs in the game in an attempt to rekindle the excitement of exploring a truly accessible game world. While many of my attempts have been total failures leading to no reward I have managed to find a few locations that let you see or access places not intended to be viewed. The invisible walls and ceilings coupled with the four second insta death timer are very limiting however, and I would certainly like to see the game be more accepting of exploration.
