As harmful as weed might be, if at all, it is nowhere near as dangerous as a lot of prescription drugs. It would be a great substitute for the more dangerous drugs like Xanax.

Wrong, marijuana has 10xs the carcinogen amount as a normal cigarette. Last I looked prescription drugs don't give a 10x more likely chance of cancer than cigarettes.

  • I have never heard of weed being worse than cigarettes before. I'm not saying it isn't, or the article is wrong, but I'm not sure I trust it entirely. It might have more of the specifically mentioned carcinogens, but cigarettes might have more in general.

  • With all things it depends. On the deal or the manufacturer. Some weed has Drayno in it..

Xanax treats mental illness, weed, particularly the strains high in THC, have been shown to play a significant role in the onset of mental illness. Big difference. And those prescription drugs are prescribed under a medically trained physician; if he or she screws up and the patient is harmed; they have to go to a meeting and may face consequences. This is why most doctors use extreme caution and monitoring of patients when prescribing drugs like Xanax, to minimize side effects. And another thing you have to know, psychiatric medication is relatively new (first antipsychotic--chloropromazine synthesized in 1950). One of the research areas currently in the medical world is to use medical science to develop safer medication.

  • That was an interesting article, but I'm just basing things off of personal experience. Xanax is dangerous because it's highly addictive. Weed, from my experience, has never had negative effects on me or anyone I know.

  • Marijuana is rated as the number one most psychologically addictive drug in the world.

Yeah, it's very addictve, which is why a proper psychiatrist weans you off of it. And if you become addicted, the addiction psychiatrists have medication to help treat the addiction. But Xanax isn't usually first line treatment for anxiety disorders; it's usually a SSRI or SNRI (not addictive and much safer). If a patient doesn't respond to those drugs, or has unpleasant side effects from the SSRIs or SNRIs. Yeah, a lot of people who smoke weed don't get mental health problems from it; it's a minority, but a significant minority (1/4 people carry a gene--the VAL VAL polymorphism of COMT----that predisposes them to the negative effects of weed, especially if they take it daily or near daily in adolescence). If you have a mental illness, you shouldn't be smoking weed, because adolescents and patients with mental illness are especially vulnerable to the negative harms of weed, and in particular THC. If you have no family history of mental illness, or experience anxiety or paranoia and withdrawal after smoking weed, and are using it as an adult (adolescent minds are much more vulnerable to cannabis than adults' brains are) I think (from a mental health perspective) you'll probably be fine. The people who are given Xanax need it, for their anxiety issues. Many experience recovery, and even though it is dangerous, a proper physician would ensure the patient is being carefully monitored on a drug like that.
Lol.. Treat marijuana addiction with drugs.
The "very addictive drug" I was talking about was Xanax; psychiatrists don't usually prescribe marijuana.

Cannabis dependence is a real thing look it up. It's medical malpractice if you have a patient with cannabis dependence and don't give them treatment.
