Group Back Story

We were there. We were there when the Traveler breathed life into the dead planets in our Solar System. We were there when the Darkness arrived. We were there. We battled for Venus. Mars. Dozens of alien planets we had colonized in neighboring systems. We fought. We died. But then, the Traveler’s last breath gave us life again. We are renewed. We are Vengeful. We will bring Light to the Darkness and erase it from existence. We are Luce Ultores. The Darkness left nothing but death and destruction in its wake. As if tracing the steps of the Traveler, the Darkness moved from system to system, planet to planet, scrubbing the moons clean of colonists; not all of them. A band of brave souls came together and fought back, fighting against an unending horde of unspeakable horror that humanity couldn’t even begin to understand. One by one, these warriors fell, sometimes winning small battles but never the war. Finally they were pushed back to Earth, where the Traveler resided. The Darkness had been to Earth before, but never en force. Like locusts they entered the Sol system and purged the colonies on every planet and moon with one goal in mind: the Traveler, on Earth. The warriors did what they could, as best as they could, down to the final group, the first to encounter the Darkness and survive. It would seem that they would be the last to die as well. As they fell, the Traveler breathed its last breath and pushed the Darkness back, far away from Earth. It created the Ghosts, each tasked with finding a lost soul and bringing it back into the Light as a Guardian. These Guardians though, when they awoke from their short sleep, were no normal Guardians. These Guardians were the last to die in the prior combat, even with every bone broken and muscle torn to shreds they kept fighting. Not to be remembered, though, not to be praised; they fought because they had to. They stood out from the rest of the Guardians, they were reborn better it seemed, taller, stronger, and smarter than they were before. As if their Ghosts had imbued them with more power than others.
