On XBL you will be match-made using TrueSkill. If you have a similar rating you will play together, regardless of rank.

That's interesting. How does the Xbox1 figure out your skill level, especially when in a format like the iron banner where skill is not mutually exclusive to your level and therefore your weapons/armor? Do we know of a similar PSN matchmaking system? _Ohuigin

It uses a kind of statistics called Bayesian inference to estimate your skill on the basis of your wins and losses against other players. Microsoft's implementation is called TrueSkill, which is based on Glicko-2, which is based on ELO. ELO was invented in the 60s for chess ratings.

Very cool! I still can't quite figure out how TrueSkill can tease apart wins/losses of players and their level, when differences between players' levels can have such an impact on their wins/losses (at least in the Iron Banner).
