Big irony: American psychiatrists (until recently) went on parading how cannabis is safe and that it was the self medication hypothesis (that early symptoms of psychosis propel an individual to use drugs like weed to self medicate); it was the European psychiatrists (especially the British) who believed the Americans were wrong and that there was a vulnerable minority of teenagers abusing marijuana and developing psychosis as a result (thus, in contrast, using cannabis can increase the risk factor of becoming psychotic). The British won the fight, with Sir Robin Murray (one of the key psychiatrists that developed the cannabis psychosis link) being awarded honorary membership into the American Psychiatric Association recently, as American psychiatrists dropped their stance that cannabis can not cause psychosis and that their self medication hypothesis is probably wrong. Also, Philip Morris (a tobacco company) has its eyes on marijuana, because of all the $$$$ they can make off of it. Even bigger irony, in 2009 the doctors(since British psychiatrists believed cannabis was harmful) made the UK government fire their chief drugs advisor, David Nutt. David Nutt, if you didn't know, was about to make the "coffee" shop system a reality for the UK. British psychiatrists interfered, and , as a result, the government dropped his recommendations to make cannabis sale legal in the UK and because David Nutt was resilient to this, he ended up being fired. If you go to South London, and visit the Institute of Psychiatry (connected to the Maudsley Hospital), you can walk through the place where a large chunk of the research on the psychiatric effects of marijuana were conducted. If you're lucky, you can see Sir Robin Murray, one of the key figures in psychiatry who spent years studying cannabis, walking in the halls. Sir because a year and a half after David Nutt was fired he was one of the four psychiatrists in Britain's history to be knighted by the Queen for "his valuable contributions to medicine". The only people you can thank( or blame) for this are European (especially British) psychiatrists, not Big Alcohol or Big Tobacco.

Can't disprove history, the fact is Robin Murray got knighted, David Nutt got fired, and that the Dutch are getting rid of their weed cafes because of the mental health concerns. In fact medical and graduate students are taught about the link between cannabis abuse during teenage years and developing schizophrenia. Only way you can stop the psychiatrists/disprove their claims is for you to study hard, go to medical school, and become a psychiatrist. Some are going to extremes, the Dutch psychiatrists and scientists are getting rid of all the "coffee" shop, what once used to be a weed friendly nation is now a nation where 4/5 of the towns have a zero tolerance policy for "coffee" shops. No hate taken, but I think, since doctors only tend to listen to other doctors, the only way you can prevent this by becoming the president of the American Psychiatric Association.....in that case, you got a whole lotta work ahead of you.

Didn't mean to be dickish, but trying to say that doctors (openly) say they don't care what the public thinks . In Amsterdam, when I visited, there were riots before the bans were implemented by the Dutch doctors, and the doctors didn't care. Sorry, sometimes I have problems telling if something is a joke or not and I truly did not mean to have malevolent intent with that post.

Dammit Britain, I trusted you! But regardless if weed can cause psychosis, it should still be legalized. Alcohol and tobacco are just as bad and do as much damage
