I remember playing Runescape (sue me) back in the day, and they always had holiday events that would last for a certain amount of time. How would you feel about things such as santa hats, jack o lantern heads, scarves, even a decorated tower?
EDIT: thanks to Chocomcbo, he found source from a Q&A video where they talk about Holiday Events. skip to 1:34:00

Why would you ever want to miss your holidays to play video games ?
-
Yes, because that's what I chose. :D Bai now...
-
Yes yes yes
-
Excuses to go on and something to show you played that day. Would have to not take up inventory though... Vault space is limited.

I used to play an online game, I think it was called, "Fast Kartz" or something like that. It was pretty much like playing Mario Kart, but they had holliday themes that happened. It was really cool. Remember in Halo there was a rumor that if you shot a guy in the head during halloween their head turned into a pumpkin. Festive things like that should happen. But I guess some people take offense to it. Proud member of what will become the greatest clan in the beautiful world of Destiny. THE GRIMGUARD http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/67123219/0/0

while i absolutely disliked this sort of thing in ME3 and Borderlands2 - my Sci-Fi worlds where i fled to from the real world - everybody around me seems to have liked/ not cared enough to dislike this sort of stuff there. so unfortunately i have to fear implementation of such unfitting style alterations into every modern game every now and then, regardless of how unfitting it is to force a world-wide community to participate in Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving - or even straight USA-Independence Day themed alterations to their game if they wanna keep playing it. i'd say better don't do such things - especially not in Sci-Fi games - and especially not in those known for being especially infested by Real-Life-less Nerds from all around the globe like me :) .

If my hunter can get a Turkey Cannon then why not?

Meh, not sold on this idea. Destiny takes place how far in the future? Do you really think, after the horrific war that pushed us back to a single city on Earth that any of our current holiday traditions would still be around? Doubtful. On top of that, it'd need to include holidays from around the world, not just the ones celebrated in the US, as The City is all that's left of EVERYONE on Earth. That said, they might have some days they celebrate somehow, like when The Traveler beat back the darkness, but it'd likely be a somber event. I think it'd take some serious creativity and more imagination that I'm currently having to come up with some realistic holiday events in game (likely coinciding with RL holidays for convenience) that didn't feel cheesy.

Having holiday events makes sense in both the in game world, and the outside world. For the outside world it just allows us to enjoy the festivities inside of the game with our friends and family, and perhaps be able to goof off while wearing a full santa suit or something. And from the in-game perspective, it makes total sense. Everything that can capture my attention from the ever looming threat of the darkness is a positive thing, also the holidays can act as a bridge to our past golden age.

I love holiday event's. In a post apocalyptic they are practically essential for moral. I hope they at least do in game Bungie day stuff. They normally do though.
-
Explain why.... Simply put I think if humanity was on the brink of annihilation we would rise up. Rise up not only in terms of fighting on but also in lifting up each other and celebrating humanity. Also to carry on tradition and celebrate its role in our lives.
-
I think that it would be awesome. It'd be a little strange if the entire Tower was decorated, but I think seeing some special Crucible game variants or some special mission that gives you Gear that can only be acquired from that mission would be pretty sweet.
-
Becuz it's destiny. Enuf said
-
Yes and no I will not explain why. You don't control me
-
Yes, would be fun but ONLY if it included all the consoles (that is, if it involves some Bungie interaction, not have them only join PS4 only).
-
Yes as long a they're not gimmicky.. I wouldn't mind the tower being filled with pumpkins or snow for Halloween and Christmas... But I don't want my Exo Titans stern demeanour to be compromised by being forced to wear a silly Santa hat.. Please god no bungie!

I think this would be cool if it was altered to have holidays that fit this world (not called the standard trappings/titles of real life. FFXIV sort of does this by renaming holidays and creating their own version of a backstory to fit that world. Would be nice to see something like that in Destiny and further expanded upon. Maybe have the month of December be the time the Traveler was discovered and began to evolve humanity's civilization. Maybe in the month of April, it was the time the Traveler sacrificed itself in the great conflict against the darkness. Perhaps Independence Day/week/month was when we first colonized a new world thanks to the Traveler's aid, and gained the independence of no longer existing on a single planet. Make the holidays synchronize with the world of Destiny and immerse us further into it by allowing us to find additional lore/history of the world and these events so we can truly celebrate them. In this way you do not harm/offend the beliefs of any person playing, but create an enriching experience of new holidays/values that all guardians can share and embrace together!

a cloak with a jack-o-lantern on for Halloweens would be awesome
-
I think Festivities around the holidays would encourage players to share experiences, gift giving on christmas, or an equippable clas mod that makes your melee snowballs, or food for thanksgiving, FOOD FIGHT! Titan could have Pie, Hunter drumstick, Warlock glass of punch. Special Jack-o-lantern helms for each class for halloween, or even special costume armor. Valentines or S.A.D. ... hey i'm valentine... just saying... class equippables that have hearts/ broken hearts as a reward for a special crucible event? st. patties could have lucky consumables that allow a drop rate increase, and enemies, or special rare 'leprechaun' enemies that drop a pot of glimmer. So many nifty things we could do to have fun for the holidays.
-
Because a Christmas decked out ship would be awesome.
-
That's actually a really good idea
-
Special X-mas armor for killing Santa hella ya lol
-
How about special limited time raids strikes bosses and gear that's holiday themed that would be amazing
-
Yes, Because why not... :3 on a more serious note it's nice to think about but it shouldn't be actual armors, instead how about refacing of them for x amount of time, bought from a vendor, applied to an armor.

Edited by PaladinZordon: 8/6/2014 2:09:32 AMAll the holidays died off with the other 98% of earth's population. 'Thank the traveler day' is now the only holiday, and its everyday. We celebrate it by not getting dead, guardian. You're welcome.

Hahhaa runescape back in the day was BADASS. I used to love walking around in my sexy ass blue armor with my little red sword fishing for salmon. Party hats!! Those events were awesome. Good ole days
