At a distance they look good, but up close I can see where you're having an issue with you're perspective line on the one arm out of sight. You might want to try just drawing or using the brush to get the main body. Leave off the arm and draw it separate. Then what you can do is align it on the lower pane under your main body so it lines up cleaner.

Wat. The arm is intentionally left unfinished for timekeeping reasons, because for these sorts of concepts it's not really necessary to draw it (unless the armour is very asymmetrical). I may have misunderstood what you're saying though. As for the designs OP. I think they look cool, and you're a great artist. The one on the far right is a little too heavy on the fantasy influence IMO, like it's taken from of World of Warcraft. If the fins were removed, shoulder pads scaled up accordingly and a new helmet designed I think it would be great. I like the idea behind the middle one but think maybe it would benefit from doing some variations and iterations to improve the silhouette and design. I don't think it would suit Destiny though since the triangular theme is reserved for the Vex? I believe. The one on the left is my favourite. Overall I think your strength is in the detailing, but perhaps you could spend more time on the sketching and design phase before moving on to this more polished stage (which you seem great at). However I understand this is just for fun (and these are just my opinions). =]

  • Thanks for the crit ash. My forte is fantasy so it's probably why I have so much trouble shifting over. This was more of an exercise to practice sci fi stuff more. Good call on the triangular motif, the Vex armor makes a lot of sense. I'll try and stick more to left one if I do more, it seems to resonate with people more.

Oftentimes that's how cool new ideas come about by mixing two styles together. :) I think the right one is definitely cool (they all are), it just doesn't look like it belongs in the world of Destiny IMO. At least from the gear we've seen from Bungie so far. I'm assuming you've seen this but if not it gives some of the thinking behind Destiny's world and the visual themes.

No artist likes leaving drawings unfinished. The OP knows what I'm talking about, its not a criticism to degrade his work, it's technique shared by another digital artist if he wants to cleaner sight line on that arm. The semi side profile always suffers from the one arm being distorted by the placement of the chest. Artists naturally want to include the balance even when in nature the body can or will completely obscure the arm at certain angles. One of the best work arounds with digital painting is simply completeting the arm on its own and just letting your eye do the rest on its placement by using a lower layer under the main body.
