Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Judging by your medal score you just need to play more man. Map navigation Is key to getting kills. Also using weapons your comfortable with. I recommend not using auto rifles cause they hit like a water gun. Lol.

Just suck! Im bad
-
Just need to put time in. Also YouTube truevanguard gives great tips.

I understand your pain. 100%. How I usually end up staying alive longer than normal is by finding one general 'area' in each map to patrol. Depends on the game mode, too. I mostly play Control. It helps to have your gear and weapons set up to not only get you the best perks, but to handle in a way that feels comfortable. You don't want to be on the field working a hand cannon to switch to a sniper rifle when you run out of ammo and are getting overrun. Set your loadout to give you the most punch for close to mid range, and follow up with a bad ads heavy,. I still suck donkey at pvp in Destiny, but it is still fun. Runner with a team of friends. Hope this helps

Compare it to halo and everyone has rocket launchers sniper rifles regenerating grenades.... well need I say more? You can die in 1 second. You have to be cautious.
-
I usually suck too, but if I play for a few days in a row I can do ok. Have been playing a bit more as ToO is the only pvp event that has had any interest for me as you can actually get cool stuff. So I'm trying to get used to it.

It looks like you haven't played much PvP on here? Just keep playing. You'll get better and find different strategies for every map. Also, I do better switching my weapons up depending on the map. Scouts or Pulses do great on the bigger one like Shores of Time. And I use TLW on small maps. Also, try to find people to play with. You'll do much better with communication. What system are you on?

Everyone will hate you but you can sit back and snipe with The Last Word or Thorn. It works but you'll get some hate. Also don't run around in close quater area's unless you have a shotgun on you, cause I bet you the guy that pops up around the corner will have one.

If you want real advice, just message me.

Okay, When I hit level 20, I heard about this machine called Xerxes-C. It is a uncommon machine gun but if you roll it with Focus fire,(can't get this perk on rare or legendary machine guns) it 2 shots. Get vex. Get >Insert Shotgun with Hammer forged and or Shot package< BTW what console are you on? Because I play on PS3 and PS4 and I must say PS3 players suck so much.

Two key things and you will be successful...I normally have at least a 1.5 k/d ratio or higher if I do these two things correctly...do wait to use your special too long...get at least 1 or 2 kills with it.. the second is grabbing heavy ammo...I used gear that gives me an extra rocket as well.. One other key thing I forgot...I pretty much only use my hunter and use invisibility...I always use it before I strike...it normally allows me to get those first few critical shots off first...and try to attack single targets...don't attack a group...the firepower will over whelm you quickly

My best piece of advice would be to watch some experienced crucible players on twitch. Pay attention to their map movement, weapon choices, and what type of battles they fight/flee. Fizzor or triplewrecktv are a couple of good crucible streamers

If you are using a Hunter in PvP you are doing it wrong.Titan is better.
-
I was complete garbage with a k/d somewhere around 0.6something and its been climbing nearing 1.0. For me it was a huge grind to find my play style and the load outs that work best for ME. Is thorn a good gun? No doubt. Does it work for me? No, it doesn't. Just keep grinding it out with friends and find your style.

You scrub

+1 for asking for help instead of crying

I haven't played the PvP in two months. Even when I use Thorn I suck.
I sucked b4 anyway.
I am crucibles worst PvP player!. I follow advice and run and shoot, use space and cover .... then I get a Vex Mythoclast to the face wielded by someone whose health bar never moves despite my rounds and grenades hitting him!. Soul destroying aren't the words!
