It was the most disappointing aspect of the beta for me. Discovering that I can only play Destiny, for the most part with 2 of my friends. Something needs to be done about the fireteam size in all instances. I don't want to be stuck playing with randoms for PVP or having to leave a couple of friends out of my play session. This and this alone is my only dislike regarding Destiny. I think the game is ambitious and stunning beautiful I honestly can not wait to play come September. However in saying that I truly dislike the direction co-op has taken.

You can play with as many as fit in the party system of your preferred console, only thing is you might have to attempt a couple of zone ins to get multiple fireteams into the same zone ;)

Xbox one party system can hold 32 players. So that's 10 fireteams and it doesn't balance out evenly. Also imagine the amount of zone ins you would have to attempt to have everyone in the same zone. Now I don't think anyone will be playing with 32 people. However if we have to follow your suggestion of multiple zone ins just to play with our friends, its seems awful convoluted.

It is convoluted, I agree. Workarounds, unfortunately, are always convoluted ;). Also it seems if you are willing to go in this direction 32 is out of the question anyway, the player list in the tower seemed to not go beyond 12-14 for me.
