I love the day night cycle , but it think Bungee missed a trick with the night time.
Imagine the sense of foreboding as you see the sun setting, knowing that the higher level Hive masters are going to be out in numbers, and that the darkness will cover the land making visibility limited without your ghost light.
Will you survive the night or succumb to the darkness....
-
yeah enemies should be tanked up when the sun goes down and drop better loot.

For the night is dark and full of terrors.
Please tell me I'm not the first.
Go to the hellmouth, its creepy enough in there

Edited by Raikoa: 7/29/2014 12:39:33 AMI think that(or something like it) would be really fitting since the story keeps going on about "The Darkness" and how we generate orbs of light in combat.

Edited by Coviak117: 7/29/2014 12:46:14 AMI agree to how nighttime should be more foreboding. If visibility were to decrease or enemies levels or behavior changes, the day and night cycles would have a much higher significance to how the game is played. Apart from the lighting, weather should also have some sort of impact to the game. I mean like how a fog would cause a higher use of melee/shotgun type attacks due to a lack of visibility. Weather like rain or thunderstorms should make sneaking around enemies easier due to increased background noise.

Stronger night enemies would be welcome. As for darkness, I think there could be spots where it's super dark and motion sensors are limited. To have it dark all over would just e annoying. And make me crank up the in game brightness.

"For the night is dark and full of terrors"

Lol sorry this game is rated "T" for Toddlers. (Not offending the game just don't like how the rating will attract children)

Edited by Phear Seamus : 7/29/2014 2:13:20 AMAgreed. Games as simple ad minecraft make you stay inside at the start; however, this game doesn't have SMS thing you can do at night, so it cannot be so hard at night that a player must sit till morning Edit Take it easy on the hashtags. Feedback would have been enough.

Keep in mind, the Old Russia map wont necessarily be the same when the game releases (for instance, the 20s probably wont be 20s), so theres a good chance the night cycle wasnt implemented in the beta, because they were trying to test other aspects. Wouldnt be surprised if it didnt change, though. As much as i wish it will :(

Its a fine, fun enough idea but like most good ideas, they don't always have to make it in the game. In this case probably due to theme. Destiny isn't about survival (in the survival horror sense) its about awoken avengers taking back earth. As an amateur game designer, Ive learned you have to draw a line somewhere. As much as we all want everything and the kitchen sink in our game, if included the game could quickly lose focus. I like the bits of "darkness" in the beta (in one of the story missions) where it does feel kinda "horror" like, but I feel that if it was like that every night it would ruin the theme a bit, be a turn off for some players, and\or not as effective or lose its impact during scenes that need that darkness for balance.

I second this, I can't imagine the planets having much light pollution if there's only supposed to be one city on one of the planets
-
Totally agree especially ith different monster/enemy spawns as currently due to static enemy spawns there is no fear. Saying that hell mouth was great at freally freaking you out not pitch dark but atmospherics were great random roars and rumbles. It felt alive uonlike russia and rest of moon
-
Nighttime should be way harder. I mean even in the very first mission your Ghost states that the Fallen thrive in the darkness so wouldn't it make sense they get stronger during nighttime.
-
Edited by laxxmann7: 8/16/2014 5:27:12 PMImagine if they make the moon more realistic, so every so often there will be a new moon and then there is no light at all, meaning all you have is the ghost flashlight. Then swarms of never ending Thralls and ogres coming after you out of nowhere. With no map this would scare some people shitless. Maybe even add some new enemies that only show up in this time and are a public event with a good reward drop since you can't see more the 10 feet in front of you. #feedback

They are called the darkness yet they hide at night?
-
I'm missing the option to choose both. I like your idea, but the nights are beautifully made. I'd like to see both kinds of nights in turns.
-
I think the nights are fine - best to save the real darkened areas for the moody interiors
-
Edited by Caraweezey: 7/31/2014 11:18:53 PMKinda reminds me of Dragons Dogma. I agree I would like a darker atmosphere where the ghost is the only source of light.
-
Wait how did I miss night time? Weird I played a ton.
-
Did you go near the crashed hive ship at night?! Trust me it gets real, real quick at night.
-
I think that's why we have the hive on the moon. It's always night there and the lifeless, alabaster surface creates a 'too quiet' vibe. Imo...The hive are by far, the scariest of the alien races (that we know about). When those gates opened up on the moon... I did panic. I already thought it was all over and was quickly educated with the knowledge that I should never let my guard down in this game again. Lol I trust BUNGiE know what they are doing and suspect that they wouldn't want to turn every planet into a survival-horror at night. They will keep it mixed up and hopefully throw in some real rare public events to shock and scare over-confident players, like myself. :$

I guess that would be cool. But, this is supposed to be futuristic Sci Fi. If we have pulse rifles, space craft, etc., then there should be night vision in all of our space-age helmets. Besides, the darker the screen is, the harder it is to see. I don't like squinting;) Upgradable helmets with night vision would be great. Then u wouldn't need a flashlight/lantern view in dark areas. Futuristic should have night vision.
