The reason is likely because Bungie themselves tweeted out new event and awards would come after the maintenance period.
Here, these are their exact words.
@Tharizdun2012 The Return if the Destiny Beta will feature special events, permanent rewards, and some other surprises.
Sorry but that sounds like we could have atleast gotten one little addition.

They also clearly stated that Saturday would have an event to get a permanent award. Which will be the emblem for participating in the beta.

yeah but that's if you sign in to the game on saturday the 26th. They've announced that the special permanent thing is given out on the 26 after 2pm PST.

The xbox half of the community is still trying to download the BETA. Any new content will most likely not happen until this weekend.

Play on the 26th like they said @ 3pm PDT or PST or whatever Thats when you get it... self entitled child. And I Image things like the Iron Banner will pop up, you are not entitled to anything you are lucky to get a brief glimpse of the game before release to help test it out. Be happy with that, if anything else comes of it awesome if not awesome. Stop ruining the experience for others.

Correct, those probably refer to the Iron Banner coming into play, the emblem they have advertised since last week, and [i]maybe[/i] something they haven't talked about yet. But people are assuming that this will happen instead of just letting Bungie surprising us.

But they put in iron banner a good amount of time before maintenance. And an emblem is hardly anything to get excited about. It's understandable why people thought something big was going to happen, including myself.

Thinking something big would happen and expecting it to happen are different, and the posts in this forum today have made it clear a large number of people expected and demand content updates that weren't promised in any way.

You get something when you play at a certain time on the 26th i believe. I cannot remember when exactly. But i know we recieve something. I dont care, i just want to play!
