Because most of the vocal minority on this site, and the internet as a whole, are condescending Atheists.
I'm a proud Catholic that is tolerable of others' beliefs. Hell, a good number of my friends are either Atheist or Agnostic.
I just can't stand when these people that I try to respect feel the need to make fun of everyone else who don't see things their way.
They are just hypocrites, and I try to avoid them. The guy who made the thread didn't deserve the bashing that he got, and those people know it.
All I can say is that karma's a bitch, and the ones that did make fun of him and his thread will have something coming to them fairly soon.

I'm Catholic myself, and this is probably what I find most upsetting. For the most part, mainstream media sends a message that we should accept all belief systems unless that system involves a god. It's a blatant double standard that most outlets either ignore or deny.
-
Oh the irony. "I'm a Catholic" "Karma's a bitch"
-
Lol, I know it's a joke. I just want to put out there that I'm not perfect, and act totally different than what most would expect of me.
-
The irony, it's so sweet!
-
You reap what you sow, same idea is in the Bible buddy. But I see the joke you were making about his word choice.

As an Ex-Catholic Agnostic, i am sorry to hear you feel this way about the expression of ideas related to a specific topic on a public forum. It is completely natural to question others (and even our own) beliefs, and is part of what makes us free thinking individuals. Just because i don't agree with someones beliefs and are willing to challenge them in an open conversation if they are brought to light, does not mean i am intolerant of said beliefs. I happen to think Taco Bell is the most abhorrent ff chain and is the second scourge of mankind, but that doesn't mean i condemn everyone that enjoys a grilled stuffed burrito every now and then. Tolerance is an interesting word for a Catholic to use. The Catholic church has been intolerant of most religions since its formation, even going so far as to attempt to wipe out entire countries of non-believers (the Crusades anyone?). Id say that lets not jump to the conclusion that open dialogue between 2 groups about their principals and ideas is intolerance, lets just call it a discussion.

Edited by RacingTempest: 7/22/2014 5:55:27 PMJust to clarify, The Catholic Church all the way up to the 1500s was extremely corrupt. the Catholic Church during the crusades and the current Catholic church are very, VERY different, especially with the reforms Martin Luther was able to initiate (indulgences anybody?)
-
Edited by PGNarc: 7/22/2014 6:28:50 PMAgreed, but my point was that the Catholic church has indulged in their fair share of hypocrisy and intolerance while non-religious and sub-religious groups have not had as powerful of a voice until the advent (slight pun intended) of the internet.
-
Perhaps individuals (and even groups of people) within the church, but the Catholic Church itself has remained constant in its dogma ever since its establishment.
condescending Atheists

They are just hypocrites, and I try to avoid them.
Maybe you should read your bible (i have) before you talk about hypocrisy. The fact that you called your self a
I'm a proud Catholic that is tolerable
is just that,,, HYPOCRISY

Edited by Hank Hill: 7/22/2014 5:30:15 PMThe same thing goes for Christians who find the need to bash on others' beliefs. I never said that I insult those who mock my religion, I simply stated fact. It is pretty obvious that most people who tend to post on the global web are Atheists who seem to think that their views are superior. I won't lie that there are threads on here where the exact opposite happens, but they are not as frequent as those where anybody with Christian beliefs are torn up. Simply put, there are people who are stupid on both sides.
-
There are stupid people on both sides I agree I'm one. I don't know everything and don't pretend to. Some people just can't have a sound debate or disagreement without getting all pissed off. I think if we ALL stopped being so serious, me included, and introduce a lil comedy from time to time we'd all be a bit better off
-
There is a difference between being stupid and being ignorant. You can at least identify that you don't know everything.
-
I don't know MOST stuff for real, but I also know I shouldn't get into this kind of shit, that's my stupid popping out all over the place
-
Edited by Hank Hill: 7/22/2014 5:44:43 PMI agree. Believe me, I've the same mistakes at some points.
-
Have a good day guess i need to think a bit more before saying things... but i think that goes for most people as well
-
Alright man, keep it easy.
-
-blam!- off You're the reason why this thread was made.
-
Me...? I've never felt so loved. What cuz I said I'd play a si fi game with a guy? With a Lil joke next to it? If you made this post because of that you got bigger problems.
-
Edited by drumandstep: 7/22/2014 5:42:37 PMNope. It's because you're bashing someone about your beliefs. It's not cool. No one finds that funny either
-
OK man, if I wanted to BASH I could. And I do find it funny, think I won't like hearing a good atheist joke? I'd love it. It's not my fault the beLIEvers can't take a joke, or are to wrapped up inside their own relgion to be able to take a half a step back and see the funny side of something
-
Nevertheless you're criticising someone for their beliefs and it's not cool.
-
OK... If you can't see the difference in criticizing and joking then I can't help you. We apairently are not going to ever agree so I'll say good by and have a good and long life whatever your beliefs are.
