SO MUCH FOR TOLERANCE
OK, I'm assuming many of you have seen these two posts: the person who wants to play Destiny with others within the LGBT/Furry community, and the person who wants to play with Christians. Now let me say first this is not going to devolve into a theological or argument about morals. When the guy(or girl) who made his post about playing with other Christians, his thread was torn apart. He, his beliefs, and anyone who sided with him were discriminated and made fun of. He was told countless times that he was wrong and stupid for believing what he did.
Now today there was another post made by a guy(or girl) wishing to play with with those in the LGBT and "furry" communities. This thread, thankfully, was met with nothing but kind words and willingness to play, even by those who were not LGBT.
Why is there a difference between the responses to the Christian post and the LGBT/furry post? Neither was condemning those who didn't think like them, simply asking to play with like-minded people of similar backgrounds, yet one was discriminated and made fun of. Why is this OK? We supposedly live in this generation of tolerance, where everyone's beliefs and lifestyles are to be accepted, so why the intolerance? Everybody should remember the Golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated.
Ok guys, it's getting a little out of hand. This is not a topic about religion, it is about respecting each other. Remember, just be nice to people. It doesn't cost anything. You're not required to agree with them, but do not belittle or discriminate against them for thinking differently than you do.

4 RepliesI'm with you dude. Neither person was forcing anything on the community. They just asked for like minded individuals to game with. The christian guy gets blasted as if he killed a relative. The LGBT guy gets an honorary place at the table as if he saved a relative. I'm not religious at all but I respect another persons opinion if it is delivered respectfully. Which both were.

I agree with you. Everyone should take a lesson in humanism imo. There is nothing wrong with someone with religious preferences searching to play with others who share the same faith. Nor anything wrong likewise with the LGBT or furry communities reaching out for people with commonalities to play with. If you are against them, what makes you so special and correct? What reason do you have to tear into them other than to fill your own (probably already overinflated) Ego? If someone wishes to express something and it doesn't personally effect you or harm you, then leave them be. And if, in some way, playing the same game as someone of another faith, who is gay, or a furry, or a brony, you might as well box yourself up in your closet because everyone in the world has a different belief in something to some extent. (And please don't take this as a personal attack against the haters, I wish they could get past their egos and see that none of this is really that bad if you took the time to understand it.)

i find this to be true across the board in all social platforms. people are far more tolerant of "progressive" thinking or behavior, than older belief systems. i'm not sure why this is. i can say as an openly gay woman, that i don't mind any one expressing their views and opinions, as long as they aren't trying to push them on me. live and let live

Intolerance and hatred is in human nature. It will exist in any place humanity is found. That means any country, religion, group, etc. Human beings will find a way to pervert and exploit even the most well intended beliefs.

5 Replies...because despite the fact that these "neo atheists" claim to despise evangelists... they just can't stop themselves from evangelising. Despite the fact they claim to reject religion- they're not intelligent enough to recognize the fact that they are indeed following a religion recognized by dozens of nations, the EU, the UN , NATO and was in fact THE STATE RELIGION OF THE FORMER SOVIET UNION. what it comes down to is this- they've been heavily propagandised into believing "you're only smart if you believe what we tell you to" (which is never smart)... and when people reject the beliefs they hang their self worth on- they react as irrationally as the beliefs their self worth is built on. Atheism... is JUST another religion, the religion of state over man.

This is a game. No need for life-lessons. People can have their own opinions and someone who posts stuff like that should be prepared for the haters out there. It's life. And again, this is a game we are all here to enjoy playing. Leave your personal stuff out of it.

1 ReplyI'd play with either crowd. I am Christian, but I support LGBT because I don't want my little cousin to be harassed in school for having 2 moms. Also, there is nothing irrational about believing in a higher power. Science requires evidence, theology does not. You cannot empirically prove or disprove the existence of an afterlife. Therefore, arguing about it is pointless. I'd mix it up with different ideology sets too because I can effectively rationalize my beliefs, and I don't hold it against anyone who can do the same. When a majority oppresses a minority for so long what exactly do you expect to happen when the tables are turned. Not that everyone in either group agrees with their peers but, the loudest and most vocal people tend to be the most judgmental and ignorant ones.

I must say however that you are wrong in this statement. Tolerance is just that... you put up with it/tolerate it. You don't have to accept what they do or believe. On a side note people that believe in a higher power of any kind is far better than people into borderline beastiality... Just my opinion on the matter. :DD

Didn't respond to either post because I just play . The others on the other consoles I am playing Destiny with are just people at the end of the day. I will be respectful of them till they aren't respectful of me. Why do we as gamers need to know or care who is operating the other controller? It's a game. I play to escape real life for a fixed period in time. After I log off I have to deal with the real world. Everybody quit dragging their real world into my pixelated made up world!
