Darksouls. First boss. Tried for 30 minutes trying to kill him, then when I realised there is a door to the left side of that room and you weren't required to fight him, I sold the game.

In dark souls your thrown into the game without direction and you find your own way through, it's how it would be in real life
-
Except that your dead...
-
Yep. Real life. lol.
I sold the game.
Big mistake my friend - you denied yourself a great game. Dark souls teaches you to play smart as much as develop skill in the combat itself etc. and is overall a brilliantly unique game (from my experience anyway). I'd advise you to try it again sometime.

Might've been a great game but since there was no indicator you should have taken the door instead of avoiding the boss I gave up. They should've told people there was a door. The only reason I actually found the door was because the boss did the smash move and flung me into the door and I was like "Whaaaaaaaaaat I'm selling this how would I've known this was here it's all the way in the back with a monster in front"

Edited by Neph: 7/22/2014 9:40:23 AMThere is a very subtle indicator - two flaming torches are in the wall to either side of the door, creating a warm glow around the area (dark souls uses fire and heat to symbolise safety and life multiple times actually - though not when being flung at your face at high velocity!). It took me couple of deaths to realise this as well, but once I did I kicked myself for not being more observant. Also, the message on the floor before the boss jumps you says 'Get Away!', rather than something like 'fight for your life'. That's one thing about Dark Souls - it doesn't hold your hand in any way. Pretty much every death feels fair once you realise why it happened and in the end you need to learn from your mistakes. That's why I like it so much - it leaves the player up to find their own way, rather than make everything obvious. I realise this isn't what everyone is after in a game though - to each their own!

When I see signs like "Don't go in there" I just feel like the developers want me to go in there. I guess I get that instinct from zombie games.
-
Most of the signs on the floor are from other players - though the ones in the initial area are all from the developers as a kind of tutorial. You do have to be wary of the odd lie in the public messages though!

"I didn't use my brain, so I got booty-tickled." Toppest of keks.

Didn't use my brain? There was no indicator there was a door to avoid trying to fight the monster. Infact, it was a door behind a giant monster. The only reason I found the door was because I was smashed through the door by the monster. Try playing any campaign without any indication of what you're supposed to do. It's confusing and not my fault, it's the developers faults. Besides, the game was free and I didn't sell it I just un-installed it.

The door wasn't behind the guy. It was on your left.
