Call of duty is a virus to video games

This is from another thread that i think you guys need to read and share.
I’ve recently been playing old FPS games such as Medal of Honor. And I realized, back then it took a fair amount of skill and practice to get good at it. Whether it be online or the campaign, there was a challenge and it felt like you earned it. There was a learning curve to the game genre of First Person Shooter. That’s what made it fun to me was that challenge, but now it seems all of that is gone. I think Call of Duty had a hand in taking away the challenge aspect of FPS. With guns having zero recoil, hit detection, and everything else. Making it very easy for the player to become better at it. Basically dumbing it down and i think this trend needs to stop. Back at E3 a game that was known for its challenge, Rainbow Six had another game for the series announced. Called Rainbow Six: Siege and many were disappointed when they showed the game play. The guns had zero recoil and the game looked dumbed down. I’m beginning to see a trend that these developers think the only way to make a game popular. Is for it to be dumbed down to appeal to casual players and it’s happening more and more. Everywhere i look for a new FPS game, it seems to be stricken by the CoD virus. Not all of them do, but the majority of games in the FPS genre are Call of Duty clones. Another thing i think Call of Duty began was this community of 12 year olds. Who cuss and scream like they are insane online via the voice chat. To me the voice chat feature is there for one thing, and that is to talk to your team and maybe make some online friends. But it’s now a breeding ground for out of control kids who like to cuss and use racial slurs. And of course the parents are never to blame the parents just blame to the video game industry, but I digress. I understand that when Call of Duty began it was challenging and had a learning curve. But from its inception until now it has drastically changed. I am a fan of the old Call of Duty games some of them are my favorite games. I am speaking of the recent installments of game. The bottom line is a simple one, i want FPS games to go back to they way they were. Needing skill to become better and having a challenge with a learning curve. And a community with mature gamers that don’t use profanity and racial slurs to express themselves. The FPS genre needs innovation, creativity and most of all go the opposite direction of Call of Duty. So what do you think? Is CoD a virus to the FPS genre? Do FPS games need a change? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
• if you need more of a challenge just take off auto aim. rainbow 6 is probably tired of mediocre game sales, why wouldnt they make their game more "accessible"? battlefield did it and now their (admittedly less fun) game topped sales charts all over the world. no one gets into business for respect alone, they do it for money

  • Infinity Fail's games (MW2, MW3, Ghosts) were the ones that killed the entire series.

    • Call of Duty is giving players exactly what they want. They have identified their target audience, and now make games for that audience, not for other gamers.

are you at the bottom every game?do you ever think it might not be the game but rather your skill sucks and FPS aren't for you. I have rocked any where for a 1.75-3k/d that takes skill you opinion is invalid plus like was said before it's a business they found what sell . I mute all the kids as soon as I join a game so I don't have to hear them but I do love killing them.

        • He has some point when he says CoD is like a virus but not for the reasons listed here. The first Call of Duty and the second where all the type of Shooter that was fun to play by using ure own skill. Modern Warfare and there stupid bonussystems on the otherhand made it really hard for that type of FPS. RPG elements are fun in a FPS as they give u an idea of progress but modern warfare is overpowered on higher levels and killstreak bonuses are destroying the atmosphere of the efford of hitting an enemy. Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Spearhead and Breakthrough were also the best when it comes to the FPS Genre not only because of theire Weapons and atmosphere but for the amount of creativness People chared with others. Multiplayer Maps were created in that time, new Playmodes like Freeze-Tag (which is absolutely the most Fun in FPS History) and Zombie Mod conquered the world of FPS in an instance. CoD United offensive gave us an FPS Multiplayer with tanks which was better balanced than the whole MW Series even though they were allready op a lot XD Battlefield on the other hand was not so good as u needed lots of players because maps where often to big to have fun. The golden age of FPS was that time and his dead came with the end of the free servers. A Multiplayer Shooter with maybe 8 maps like MW2 is no fun to play and they have no place for creativ people who make the whole experience better. For Medal of Honor theire were about 30 different maps created some fun some not but all with theire unique experience. I wish i could play good old V2 Map again or Omaha Beach like in the old days with the graphics of today. Younger people who never got the feeling of the golden age of FPS will not know what I want to say but the older ones here who fighted night after night on a LAN-party should be able to understand the way I'm feeling about this. Of course the World War II Setting was somehow allways the same but they could had give a new setting without destroying system behind it. Most FPS today are not able to do so and the speed of new games are developed is not good too as a good shooter needs time for theire comunity. I'm glad theire are plenty of Russian players out there still playing Call of Duty 2 so i can play some rounds too even it lags sometimes like hell XD

        • Don't really agree with what you have to say. Granted, the latest installments of CoD have been lackluster but a lot of the 'kids' are quite skillful at the game. CoD sells. People forget that this is all a business. If something sells - more and more games will be made just like the popular games that sold out years/months ago.

        • Other devs see that cod is making billions by copy an pasting the same game and try to implement aspects that will get the same $. So far I have not seen anyone do it and succeed.

          • Modern Warfare and World at War were great fun to me. All the rest just kinda sucked in my humble opinion. The whole "no scope" and suckie spawn systems killed most of the enjoyment out of the COD franchise for me.

          •
zero recoil, hit detection
That doesn't necessarily make a game any less skillful.

If he is referring to CoD 4 as his favorite CoD, then he is contradicting himself. He complains about the recoil taking away skill, yet the m16 in cod4 has literally NO Recoil. You just point and shoot. Almost all the guns in Cod 4 and MW2 are like that.
I still love Cod 4 <3
• Just going to say Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament games had zero recoil, yet they're proven to have the highest skill gaps in FPS history. My point is, is that there are more complexities involved in a games mechanics than just recoil or something like you mentioned that add or take away from a games skill factor.
