According to this IGN guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP48KHOI7_0 you can not pilot your own ship, it's just a vanity item there to look nice. While it serves this purpose very well (the ships in this game look amazing) it seems like a missed opportunity that you can't do much with it, you can customize it but it's still just a giant flying trophy on autopilot. Now you can pilot a Shrike which is basically a hoverbike, that's good. But what would be better is the ability to climb into my own ship and shoot targets on the ground, join epic air or space battles, weave between asteroids in space, and fight other players in their customized and modded ships. The game is good as it is but what would really make it the ultimate package for me would be piloting my own ship. I really hope that they will add this to the game itself or make it a DLC later on. Agree?

I was kinda hoping for Mass Effect style space exploration, but I don't think it will happen.
-
Yeah I'm hoping further down the line they'll give us a little more control with them.

Edited by MadHaze: 6/26/2014 11:33:35 AMYes I agree , I'll also be Amazed if we don't see a few Piloting missions in the future. All good things come to those who wait :D It is a great touch to see the ships as the game loads as well though .

You got to remember this is the 1st of many destiny games. I'm almost positive that will come in some form.
-
I always thought Reach's space battle was a warm up for Bungie. I'd only want it if it's done right and doesn't take away from other aspects, it can't just be a gimmick which is why I am glad it's not in the first game which should focus on building a solid core game. In the future it would be nice though.

They should make it available and put marks on where to go
-
Well, it's not only a vanity item. It has been heavily implied (if not stated outright) that you must upgrade your ship to travel to destinations far from Earth.
-
Well it's impossible to implement now seeing as we're 2 months from release. So I agree with the DLC option. I'm picturing something along the lines of Halo Reach's mission Long Night Of Solace. I mean you can't really expect to be able to fly from one planet to another in a seamless transition. From Earth to the Moon sure. But Earth to Venus or Mars is asking too much. Think of how far away those are in comparison.

Here we go again...
-
I'll go play star citizen or no mans sky for space combat. But also boarding other space ships in star citizen as well as flying into planets in no man's sky.
-
I disagree with piloting a ship. This is a first person shooter. You start adding this like flying ships and it will take away from the rest of the game. Go buy a seperate game if you want to fly ships.
-
I'm for either, if they add it and do it well, sure, but frankly won't cry if it isn't, Destiny is a infantry level fps, not a space flight sim, no need to spread thin over different genres.
-
I'm all for it in sequels
-
It's a nice aesthetic choice, what I'm hoping for is that the ship's will give bonuses. Since the ships come in different rarities would be nice if there was a point to buying a rare ship for XXXX glimmer, small stuff like full ammo/faster regen/better shield etc etc.
