343 has done more with the story and foreshadowing in >3 years than Bungie did in 10.

TFW Bungie fanboys seem to believe that John the cypher (?) is a better character than John the character. And can't support their argument against 343's thought-provoking depth versus Bungie's excuse for settings and setpieces. I do love Bungie's space opera approach. But as Admirals and Chronarch have proven time and again, 343 just adds more.

The thing is that Halo had a lot of it's story in the books rather than in the games. As for why that is, it mostly comes down to the times that the gamers were made in. 10 years ago story was less important to many gamers in contrast to today. As for 343's contributions, yes they did add a lot but most of it goes against past fiction. If we measure only but they have written then it's fine but when compared to story from Bungie's days, it makes no sense.
most of it goes against past fiction.
Such as what?
-
For consistency sake more so than anything. What's the point of having a story if you just change everything when you feel like it simply because you can?
-
What? Everything 343 have written is in line with the pre-established Halo lore and canon.
-
Where did all the sentinels around onyx go?
-
not expanding on that doesn't mean that 343 is out of line with preexisting halo lore at all. it simply means that they, well, haven't expanded on it yet. the sentinels could have just left after that. i mean you could point to the thematic incongruities that kilo five is privy to, or something physical like how a spartan manages to punch halsey in the jaw and has her leave with a sore neck or something. not saying 343's canon is breach free, just that A) the breaches are few and far between, and B) your example isn't a breach of canon whatsoever.
-
Fair enough. However my point that story was developed during Bungie's run still stands.
-
erm, i'm not denying that bungie develops the story [hell they gave the story its arms and legs for god's sake] but where did you make that point? [and i still have to stand by the point that 343's lore is superior to bungie's, and provides subtextual depth on a level that bungie only foreshadowed with the prior games. though that's just me, and if you disagree it's fine.]

I made the statement initially so I stated it again for any readers in the future. I would be inclined to agree that their story is superior, however I do dislike Karren Travis's writing style. I did an assignment on her once and her biggest thing she is know for is "Falling back on random military jargon and swearing if all else fails." Her words right there as far as I remember them. Greg Bear on the other hand, I very much enjoy his writing.

Except everything 343 has written confirms to pre established lore.
most of it goes against past fiction
The stupidity... I can't... I can't comprehend it.

Halo 4 is missing alot mangggg

Care to enlighten me, a bit more?

But Bacon, it's only good if Bungie do it, remember?
-
Oh, shit. I'm sorry. Praise Halo 3! Best story 2012!

That's what I thought.
