• A lot of Bungie employees moved to 343 to work on Halo. Microsoft is just greedy and is pushing out games before they're ready. Just like another company we know *cough *cough "EA" *cough *cough

        • Contract ended. MSOFT owns Halo. Would you honestly wanted to make the same shit for ten years?

Because MS would have just made them a Halo factory, and they didn't want that. Plus their contract ended.
Luis Because they got bored of just making Halo and wanted to do something new.
So far all is true.
So when it was time to renew the contract they decided not to. They gave Halo to MS.
but then the truth disappears. Bungie signed on for 10 years ... they only completed 7. The appealed to Microsoft to release them from that contract which they did, one of the conditions being that there was a completion of Reach and a transfer to 343. Plus Microsoft owned Halo already ... there was no "giving" of Halo to be done, not by bungie. But back to the first point ... "they got bored", this was after only 4 games in 7 years. How are they going to deliver on 10 games over 10 years ... a far more demanding schedule, no new fun that comes from a new engine (yep, bungie want to push the same engine for 10 years). This will be the interesting part to watch. The other grievance they held towards Microsoft is that bungie felt Microsoft to be "too controlling". And yet already Activision is calling the shots with Destiny - even before the first release. Pushing the platforms (hell, Microsoft got Gearbox to do the PC port, no force applied there) ... and now the special deals being done with Sony (with nothing going to xbox gamers). This should be more fun to watch than the game itself.

They didn't quit, that's about as sensible as "Why did they quit Marathon?" They were under a 7-10 year contract with Microsoft, in which they had to dish out five Halo's. They just simply wanted to move on. Like a TV show that's popular enough to get 5-7+ seasons, and the creator just wants wants to stop.

          • Bungie wanted to be an independent company once more and didn't want to making Halo and only Halo for the rest of their existence as a company, so they negotiated leaving Microsoft. And since M$ owns Halo, Bungie couldn't take it with them. If they could have, they'd have gladly taken the Halo series with them when they went.....would have been for the best >__> Unfortunately we're left with the series in M$ hands and with 3fail3idiocy running it into the ground *sigh* .....hopefully all the rumors constantly going around all the time eventually prove true about Microsoft scrapping/selling off the Xbox division and Bungie can get back what's rightfully theirs, or at least it wind up with someone that will actually respect the series and do well with it....

Bungie wanted to branch out from the Halo franchise. They made Halo games for a decade, so they wanted to tackle a new ambitious project. Destiny is the end result of that ambition. Since Bungie never owned the Halo IP, they had to part ways with Microsoft to work on their new project. Bungie is no longer associated with Halo, so they couldn't do anything with Reach even if they wanted to. I understand you want them to return to Reach and the Halo brand, but this 2014 gamer right here can't wait to explore their new universe. :) Bungie.net Information Desk | Bungie.net FAQ | Destiny Beta FAQ
