I think I figured out what Dead Orbit is.
The symbol appears to be of the Earth and the Traveler. As we all know the Traveler hovers low above the Earth as if it was in orbit, but it doesn't move so it its orbit is "dead." Hence the name "Dead Orbit." Clever. This has lead me to believe that the faction as some sort of religious tie to the Traveler. Similar to the Unitologists in Dead Space. Another possibility is that it has some kind of tie to Warlocks. Of course this is all theory. Do NOT take anything I said here as fact because it isn't. This is just my best guess. What do you guys think?

Dead Orbit sounds to me as another way of describing a planet that has lost it's orbit entirely. Adrift among the stars. No intended destination. No propulsion, instead guided by several million different planet's gravitational and magnetic pulls. A world of vagabonds on a rogue planet. Sounds interesting...

I like how you relate the dead orbit logo to earth and the traveler i never realized that, but if there are any storys to the factions or if each has some goal within our time in destiny, then i get the vibe dead orbits story and goals are deep and dark just like the black garden , that place has dead orbit written allover it

I think it has something to do with the moon being overrun and infested with the hive who are basically space zombies/undead. Hence "Dead orbit". My beloved Luna, I shall save her. :'(

Sounds good but the traveler is always shown to be VERY low over the city... like, well within earth's atmosphere. That would mean it isn't in orbit AROUND the earth. The moon, however, is. We know that it is a forbidden zone and is very dangerous. Maybe Dead Orbit has something to do with the moon? Just off the top of my head.

This is actually spot on I would have to say, but with some missing spots of info. As for the religious part of it. I guess as for the continuous and repeated worship of the Traveler renders religious actions but it has some deeper meaning. It will be explaind soon before the beta, as the beta needs some story or it will be counter productive in the performance a beta is placed to achieve in the first place. As story being one small building block to the whole piece.
