Let's talk punk

Who are your favorite punk bands? What time period? And most importantly, is punk dead?

  • Some of my favs are: Propagandhi NOFX The Queers Fugazi Jawbreaker Choking Victim/Leftover Crack/Star Fcking Hipsters Pulley Op Ivy Riot Before Against Me! (before they sold out, first 2-3 records) The Gits While I have many more favorites as far as classic punk bands go, I feel that a lot of new punk that I feel excited about is a bit more experimental. Here's some of my fav newer experimental punk: No Age Japanther Cloud Nothings Titus Andronicus Toys That Kill Japandroids Mahria White Lung And I've also been listening to a lot of folk-punk and folk made by punks: This Bike is a Pipe Bomb Snail Party Rosa Andrew Jackson Jihad Paul Baribeau Defiance, Ohio Anything by Pat the Bunny (Ramshackle Glory, Wingnut Dishwasher's Union, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains, The Michael Jordan Football Pass) So while I feel it has definitely been commercialized and there are a ton of bands out there looking to exploit what's left of the scene, I still feel excited about some of the punk coming out these days and where the genre has and is going. Granted it just takes a lot more searching, but the internet helps a lot with this. Sometimes I just spend a few hours just going through album after album on Bandcamp looking for a hidden gem. Good hunting out there...
