Joseph Staten takes on a new role as Microsoft Studios Senior Creative Director, after leaving Bungie as Lead Writer for Destiny. Here's the statement in full:
“As a senior creative director, Joseph will help create the world’s best entertainment on Xbox, as well as help shape our franchise strategy for some Microsoft Studios titles. He’ll also be one of our leading ambassadors to the game development community, building on his many years of experience and relationships with developers and fans. We’re excited to share more about Joseph’s role in the future.”
As you can see not much information given, but considering how much of an influence he was when working with Bungie, i considered this news-worthy. We wish him all the best for the future.
Personally i rather enjoyed his book Halo: Contact Harvest back in the day.

This will be good. Microsoft is probably going to have him handle major IPs, possibly even Halo (but not for sure since they have their own development team for it, 343i).
-
Dat guy i like
-
So be it.
-
Yeah Microsoft landed a good one here. I imagine its mutual though as he quite a bit of power back when Microsoft ran the show. ODST was his pet
-
I support him wherever he goes.

-
This is good news for Xbox fans. Hopefully he'll be able to provide influence and input at some level to make some fantastic X1 exclusives.
-
Meh Whatever
-
Best of Luck Mr.Staten. :)
-
I thought better of him.
-
I thought it said Joseph Stalin at first and I it really confused.
-
I wish him the best and I'm sure MS is singing him an excellent tune for his company.
-
I will never understand how someone can leave Bungie to work for Microsoft. WTF? In the case of the handful of people who left Bungie to work at 343 I can understand it somehow as they propably wanted to continue working on Halo. But..but... why Microsoft?

Edited by Commander Tempu: 1/10/2014 10:19:57 PM343i will need more than Joe to help. Joe is a great writer and this move might have been due to the changes or factors we do not know about yet can only speculate on. From what i see Joe might have seen what i see now with the Timed Exclusives in Destiny not to mention the way the Xbox community is being treated these days. Also it might be he is getting better paid or even having an opportunity to move on as he might be doing Halo or other Microsoft projects with great freedom. Anyone who thinks Sony is any different is fooling themselves. Also some conflict issues with Sony or Bungies affiliation with Activision (Not the consumer the company) We will never know the true reasons why things happened like they did as Bungie has not even addressed why Xbox is being ignored as are the fans. I dislike guessing and will not poke my nose into Joes affairs. I wish him well and hope he has allot of success.

Bungie is getting people on the inside now. Clever.
-
all the respect to mr. staten. loved Contact Harvest. as well as all the other halo lore he is responsible for

Edited by MoonDawg: 1/12/2014 5:13:23 PMI'm sad to see him go, but I wish him the best. I'm sure Microsoft gave him a hefty sum of money to convince him to resign from Bungie.
-
I can't say I'm surprised. This is very good news for Microsoft / XboxOne. I expect that he'll be working on some big stuff (e.g. the Halo TV project with Steven Spielbrg for one).
-
Who going to do all the blabbing in the Bungie GDC conference this year?
-
Weird how he looks different but the same. I heard Frankie took him out to see The Desolation of Smaug, but I thought that was just two friends going to see a film, then Admirals was all OMG STATTN IS JOIN 343.

... Still in shock.
