Clearly inspired by my thread... OT- My village is bordered on two sides by a river, and one by canal, the other by forest. Next to it are a rugby pitch, a cricket pitch and a forest. With only two accessible bridges into the damn place, I think we'd be fairly defensible. Heating up river allows clean water, fields for growing, forest for possible hunting (I've seen deer and fox in there) and loads of farms around for other stuff.
