what do you think is the age range for "mature" rating of games? (since it's so broad) also, do you think halo should be rated M? my seven year old cousin plays halo for goodness sake

Edited by Cheesy: 12/18/2013 8:05:41 PMHalo? Halo is like the Star Wars of video games. There's violence in it, but nothing like say Dead Space or Alien, and the cursing is very tame. So I'd say Halo is fine for something like 7+ years old. It will also depend on the maturity level of the kid. Ultimately it's up to the parents though.

Age means nothing. If my kid is mature, I'll let him play mature game.

I don't think Halo deserves an M. It's always seemed like a T game to me. Regardless of the content, one thing that's always been apparent in Halo is that it's "just a game". There are shiny, colorful aliens with laser guns in campaign, and you play as the futuristic cyborg trying to stop them. The multiplayer and custom games stray even further from reality, sometimes into things like Grifball and Race-- emphasizing game-ness and not attempting to make the experience believable. Halo isn't desperate to be relevant and connect itself to reality; it's content with just being a really good game.
Mature (M) - M-rated games are suitable for players age 17 and up. M-rated games may contain blood and gore, intense violence, sexual content, and marked use of strong language up to and including the F word. Examples of M-rated games on the Nintendo DS: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Ultimate Mortal Kombat.
Halo? Well that's barley violent besides killing. Only worry that the kid would become an asshole.

3 RepliesI was playing 12+ rated games when I was 8. So hardcore!

I don't really like it when kids that are far younger than the rating allows play the games. It's really not meant for them. Once saw a woman, I kid you not, letting her 9-10 year old play GTA on his psp, during church.

Edited by Friendlystu: 12/20/2013 9:24:07 AMI would just keep an eye on them and make sure the game doesn't give the wrong/lasting impression on his behavior with friends and family. If nothing shows up then I would be happy to let them play the game. One thing I wouldn't let him use would be his mic due to the amount of trash talking. But thats all dandy thinking about probably much harder to actually do in real life.

1 ReplyI played madden and racing games untill I figured out my Jet Set Radio Future side of the box was not an ad and was a game played that game so much when i was like 10

Halo is for babbys (in a good way).
-
I started playing M when I was 13, so a little more than a year ago... Most of my other friends started around that time
-
It depends on the child. They aren't all the same at some arbitrary age. But squeakers are annoying regardless.
-
Halo is the cleanest rated M in existence. I'd let a seven year old play. Space Marines vs. Aliens is my generation's cowboys and indians. There are games like GTA V I wouldn't let a 16 year old play. That's because of my personal preference to preserve my family's cultural influence during a critical time of developement. However, more damaging than any M rated game is playing online.

#Gaming
And people should obey the age limits, if only in regards to mic etiquette.

Ratings don't matter in most cases. Halo should be rated T by the ESRB's logic, but I started Halo when I was about 6 years old. However, parents really need to stop buying xbox live and other online services for their pre pubescent children. Not only is it annoying, but it makes them hypocrites for thinking that the internet on LIVE is safe while on a PC it's not.

1 ReplyIf my kids can give me a valid enough reason of why they need an 'M' rated game when they aren't necessarily old enough, then I'll get it for them. Protip: They probably can't...
-
The rating system is just put in place as a guideline, not gospel. I wouldn't let my kid play GTA but Halo is a perfectly fine game I would accept at an early age. I would want my kids to do stuff outside for the majority of their early childhood, though. I would let my kid play halo campaign as early as like 10 probably. That's about when I started. It would depend how mature he was too but Halo is a really lightweight game. I wouldn't let him play multiplayer till he was 13 at least, and even then only if he was mature enough. If I heard him being a squeaker and cussing all over the place I'd cut him off.

I've been playing M games since the N64, Turok 2 son.
-
Age isn't the best way to rate I think if you are truly mature you can play a m game but I've meet people old enough to play m games but have the maturity of an average five year old
-
You guys are lucky that you could play so young...
-
1 ReplyI honestly think a 7 year old is fit to play Halo. It's fantasy blood, mild swearing, violent gestures, but nothing else. M-rated games should be saved for the twisted and scary things like conquers bad fur day, silent hill, manhunt.
-
3 RepliesHe's seven and he's just now playing halo!?!(jk) in all seriousness I believe it would kind of depend on how well a person can handle gore and cussing. Seriously don't tell me he talks to random joes like us on a mic though.
-
1 ReplyDon't know, don't care. If I have kids, they can play what they like, just like I was able to. If their behaviour changes though due to the games, then I'll obviously not let them play those ones.
-
Depends on the game.

I started playing Skyrim when I was 13 soooooo...
