I believe Adam hits the issue right on point. There's been a flair of this debate going on and really it boils down to the "next gen" having this standard of "1080p 60FPS" rather than revolutionizing games, features, or the way we play.
It's definitely something to think about. Is this a "standard" we're all going to follow religiously?

The resolution are the aesthetics. Is this guy a moron? Higher resolution increases color and pixel diversity making pictures more lively and accurate. The resolution makes everything in the distance clearer cleaner! The resolution makes all the textures sharper and more detailed! Holy shit even for artsy games HD resolutions are helpful. Go play the wind waker HD so much better than the old wind waker. 60fps just means the gameplay will feel better be more responsive. Why wouldn't that be something you want? Revolutions in gaming? All last gen we had HUGE advancements! These take lots of time! Over the course of all those years we saw HUGE steps in AI and HUGE steps in story telling and HUGE steps in making lifelike characters. Stuff that's still barely being used and was being held back by older tech. You now have to let developers get used to making Last of us quality character interaction before they can make the next jump already.
