the shape of the blade was purposefully designed to cut through muscle, sinew, and bone. The jungle clearing aspects were just a bonus.

I remember reading a hilarious news article in which a South African special forces member was on a train that got held up by 40 bandits, they were unarmed but thought their numbers would be enough. The commando killed a dozen of them with just his Kukri! XD But that's on unarmored targets, a broad sword is meant to deliver cripplingly heavy slashes that soften up anything under the armor.

The Spartans used a similar blade to the kukuri as well.
