Education is fun and not fun. Something i noticed, as education is a game where the payoffs are few but when gained are worthwhile. The grinding is long but the final part is good. Kids should look at studying as away to gain things in return for trying. Like English will give them the ability to speak formulate sentences, write reports and help in critical thinking. While at the same time can give a person the ability to bargain, lie and talk his way through things, and last of all get laid. Math is something fun, a challenge for me, something of a puzzle i must solve. I noticed the stupid mistake i made in the last question but gave up on it, considering i was lazy. But after being corrected i kind of had to say it was my fault i made the mistake, after all it was a basic algebra rule. Everything you learn can teach you something, second language, to maintain different conversations at different time and not have others but in.
English

  • True, but the main problem I see is that the worthwhile goals at the end are not obvious enough to be the main source of motivation. Sure, you may hear you'll get a good high-paying job and a future of a house and kids, but those things mean nothing to a student because, well, they sound far off and distant. There's no engagement there, no clear way of viewing the rewards for staying and doing well in class for the majority of kids, so other means of motivation should be implemented to captivate their attention :/

  • True but for me if there is a direct result from attending the class. For example english allows you to write good resumes allow you to be more confident. If you can focus the curriculum on what kids are in need of at the time and show them a clear distinct goal, they will work for it. Something short term and worthwhile.

  • People want immediate rewards, satisfaction that they did well on an assignment rather than a static mark which feels disconnected. Schools also are putting way too much pressure on students to succeed. If a kid gets an 85% on a test, instead of congratulating them for what they did accomplish they constantly push the bar and demand for more and better results. It's really demotivational and just creates unwanted stress.

  • Which is necessary. Look around the world and see the competition. Canadians are quite behind compared to their german, chinese even pakistani counterpart. Only problem is that most canadians have a spot in the education system. If they want to succeed they better start the grinding or they will get left behind. Problem though immediate satisfaction is not exactly necessary but relationship and pattern recognition is what will help students. Afterall we as a specie learn from patterns. Truth is immediate satisfaction can not be there for everyone, yet everyone should strive to succeed. Biggest probleme in education though is environment kids are brought up. If in a caring and helpfull society, they will learn better, if in a toxic environment they will not.
