Well, basically I started thinking about it, and came to the conclusion that a belief in God is a belief against critical thinking. Funnily enough, I developed this thought as I was studying up on libertarian philosophy and free-thinking. Religion is analogous to statism. It is not answers that may be questioned, but answers which may not be questioned. Religion is a bunch of pie-in-the-sky spaghetti-based nonsense that allows you to waive away questions with the absolutism of irrational dogma. If you took the Bible and its stories and told them to a seven-year-old who has never been exposed to church, but who grew up educated, I'm fairly certain that they would consider it a fairy tale. I've concluded the same thing.
I'm not doing this out of a hatred of authority or out of hatred of the church (I know some atheists who have), but because I feel like I was duped my entire life. "No you can't study Evolution because it goes against the Bible." "It's wrong that your friend Justin is gay because God says that it isn't right." All of this goes against everything that I've been taught both in school and by my parents, and that is to question everything and to educate myself.

What's funny about atheists is how hard they try to use big words. It doesn't make you look smart, just that you try too hard. And it's not like the words are hard to understand, they are just horribly used in context. If I shall explicitly attempt to communicate my thoughts as an Atheist would, perhaps in conclusive decisiveness it would appear like this description because of the multiple attempts of using words which are simplistic enough but just add an amplitude of trash to the messages which are written and then submitted to the community. So there, I'll bash right back. Don't forget your fedora.

Edited by Mr Mulberry: 10/13/2013 5:21:46 PMA lot of Atheists believe that they are better because they don't believe in god. But as long as they shove their ideals down other people's throats, they are no different to me.

I'm a Christian, I believe what God would do first and me second. I don't hate gays and I see the reasons for evolution are more heavily backed up than religion. Religion is an abstract (which means it's what you think) idea, there is no genetic code that decides your religion ( or wether you want to be gay or not) and this abstract thinking is what makes us human. Now before I continue i'd like you to go all the way to the beginning of the universe and how it was created. The Big Bang? Okay well how did that happen? A universe-cramped ball of atoms? Where did that come from? I believe that both sides will always have unanswered questions no matter which one gets farther so I stop believing the evidence and start choosing what I believe. I have grown up Christian but not once have I read the bible. I agree that it does sound like a fairy tale but I don't consider science fake if a law in Chemistry sounds stupid. Now i'm rambling so i'll sum it up. As much as I respect your opinion I have to argue that God does exist and he loves us all, he is just and he will always forgive. I'm not going to give proof since it's all abstract i'm simply stating that you should still believe. That is all.

That's great. Why preach about you being an Atheists? You know people will respond in negative ways.

Good for you. Why bring it to b.net?

I've read your report. And I appreciate your skillset. But you're part of a team now. Time to leave that Lone Wolf stuff behind.

I'm Catholic, am allowed to use critical thinking, believe in evolution, and that gays are fine... It honestly sounds like you just graduated from grade school and are still stuck on what they taught you as a kid.

Edited by A Forum Cop: 10/13/2013 4:22:26 PMAnother atheist who thinks all Christians are intolerant people who hate science, just what society needs >_> Edit: And the fact that OP uses statism to make his assumptions of all religions is beyond ridiculous.
"No you can't study Evolution because it goes against the Bible."
Actually, evolution doesn't go against the bible, I'm a Christian and i'm a firm believer of evolution.
It's wrong that your friend Justin is gay because God says that it isn't right."
Many (if not all, I really don't feel like digging deep into the bible right now) of the verses in the bible that concern homosexuality are located in the old testament, a set of rules that Christians don't need to follow anymore.

That's nice.

Dude, we all know JB is gay. Gods ok with it, because he knows JB is too pathetic to be straight.
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Good man. And If you're American, good luck.

Welcome to the family, just don't let the Christians draw you back with threats of hell.

Yes you are

Meh not so sure how that made you an atheist. For me a muslim but quite free thinking well maybe its just my interpretation on god afterall there is no basic definition of the god in islam. I know for sure i am not a literalist but understand the reasoning behind alot of the commandments.
