Out of outrage. The idea that this tragedy is somehow "no one's fault" is outrageous. Toddlers can and do get themselves into odd and amazing situations, in an amazingly short period of time. Clearly they were unattended for at least a short while. Now that I look at more reports and have "some" confirmation that the machine in the photo isn't just a stock image but is reportedly the machine in which the children died, I can SEE the obvious problem. All of the control buttons are on the front edge of the device. IF the kids were climbing into an "imaginary space ship" then they may have pressed the buttons that allowed the machine to run a cycle. Serious design flaw. Just like the old lock/latch lever refrigerators.

Understandable. You're a parent. You can more readily imagine the horror these little girls went through. As a non parent, I can too, but I am sure that it is not to the same extent as a parent can empathize and feel sickened by this. The reporting seems to indicate that the investigation into these deaths is almost casual and there is no sense of outrage or indignation. Perhaps that is just concise journalism, but I suspect that there is a cultural element (especially in China where there is a known culture of treasuring little boys and being very meh when it comes to daughters). This too increases my personal outrage.
