You don't really hear about AIDS in the gay community now, but fit some reason it was an epidemic not too long ago. Why was that? Were all those people having unprotected sex?

1 ReplyBecause no one knew what it was and people can go months or years without symptoms, which means they're spreading it in all that time. It's kind of like how colds spread. A person can only have a slight sniffle, but they're still contagious, or their symptoms are clearing up, but the virus remains alive in their system allowing them to spread it. Obviously since AIDS is sexually transmitted it's a little harder to contract though. Also, I think anal sex makes it AIDS easier to get, or something like that.

Fun fact some people who were once immune to the Black Plague through a gene mutation the same gene allows their descendants to be immune to aids

1 ReplyBecause there was no testing and very little knowledge about it, so people didn't know how to protect themselves.

It's still a very big deal. You're apparently unaware that the first cases of AIDS were reported in the US in the year of 1981. There's an estimated 1.7 million people in the U.S. that have been infected with HIV.

It is still there ... perhaps you have stopped listening/asking ? I guess it is a little like in the early days, when it was a disease transmitted through prostitution in poorer countries within the heterosexual community. The origins also spread back to SIV and the consumption of monkeys as a source of meat for the whole family. Perhaps you could go google an answer for yourself.
