When i was a child if i did something wrong i got smacked, slapped, spanked. It does work. I am well behaved, respectful and clearly understand right from wrong. I never talked back to parents like kids do these days or threatened them with loud cursing.
How do time-outs and no tv time work?
I just don't know see how.

I was never spanked. I got my ass kicked. Cursed at my mother, got my ass kicked. Skipped school, got my ass kicked. Never repeated any of those things, avoided getting my ass kicked. I quickly learned to associate bad behavior with pain. So I stopped behaving badly.

Trust me, I was only spanked once, and I didn't learn from it. Most successful disciplinary action my parents took on me was the dreaded "stand in the corner". It completely isolated me from the rest of the fun that the other kids were having.

1 ReplyChild abuse.

I only got punished. My parent would always take my phone, laptop and my t.v outlet. That was it

10 RepliesPlenty of better ways to accomplish the same goal. Hitting is just a lazy shortcut.
-
I consider it a last resort, I'd rather try other means to discipline.
-
Spanking can lead to some damaging psychological effects. Anyway, I'd rather use reason to teach my child(ren) why something they do is wrong. I believe it would make them a better person if I instilled them with principles.
-
Well because most Kids can sway their punishment. Making it the kid in control. Kids dont listen to their parents now thanks liberals.
-
I was spanked as a kid and it's honestly terrible, I will not put my kid through. I would obey my parents out of fear, not respect, because of it. There are other effective ways to discipline a child other than a quick beating.
-
I think it;s mostly because some people think any form of it is child abuse, even though there is a great difference between the two.
-
Because Liberals.

I don't get physically beaten much as severe as it was when I was younger. But I usually break my morbidly obese step mom's rules and never really see her as my mother, I've never really favored her as my mother due to her always having a bipolar attitude. She can beat me or discipline as much as she desires to, but I won't give her respect. More power to her.
-
Because they're not motivated enough to discipline their asinine kids. Just let a tablet or tv babysit them! Simple as that.
-
Because Child Protective Agencies have gone way too damn far.

I saw a violent spanking in the middle of Miami airport. It was impressive how much the crying child changed her behavior.

3 RepliesIt doesn't work I was spanked and i'm really -blam!-ed up.

2 RepliesMy mom is a single parent and never had to spank me. She would just out smart me and show me reasons that appealed to me. It made it so I never did anything irrational and have gotten through life with a very calm and collected personality.
-
I'm a better person due to it. I believe it clearly outlined moral boundaries for me. I was incredibly destructive from the age 3-7, and had a habit of breaking things on purpose. I'd receive one spank for every 10$ in damage I did. I'll be damned if that wasn't the last time I destroyed a plasma-screen TV.

1 ReplyMy parents never hurt me as punishment anymore. But I have never cursed at my parents. On accession I might get into a small argument, nothing huge though. And I jane ton of respect for people that deserve it. I guess the first 10 years of my life when I did get physically punished did the trick, I dunno.
-
Totally agree op. My parents diciplined me and I still love them to death.
-
I only got smacked when i REALLY screwed up. I only talked back to mother once. If i did it again I'm not sure I'd still be among the living.
-
Because IIRC it has been proven to be ineffective, beyond the light smacking at least.
