The majority of the device, called the "Liberator," is fabricated entirely out of plastic, save for a nail used as a firing pin as well as a six-ounce piece of steel, intended to allow the gun to be detected by metal detectors.
According to Forbes, the Liberator is capable of connecting to different barrels, allowing for various calibers of ammunition. The device's creator plans to eventually publish the files necessary to print it at home as well as details on its operation.
Soon we will be able to print and make our own handguns at home. Although I have to say, plastic handguns just don't look gangsta enough.

Do not want. Can't go wrong with metal.
-
If the breech and barrel is anything but metallic, I wouldn't want the thing in my hand. No plastic, polymer, or composite (that I am aware of) is capable of handling those pressures.
-
Yeah I would not want to fire that.
-
I don't see it being safe. The important parts absolutely have to be metal. Till some sort of super polymer comes around I will remain skeptical on it safely operating.
-
So the Borderlands guns might be possible now?
-
I imagine it's a bit more hazardous to its user rather than whoever it's being used against.
-
Not really a good thing considering I doubt they restrict these printers in anyway.
