I don't like Pokemon and neither should you

Pokemon is to this day still considered one of the best video game series out there so I'm not going to beat around the bush. Pokemon is an awful, awful game and isn't deserving of any acclaim. The games boil down to a day in and day out grind fest for whatever team you're making on your quest to "Catch Em All!" all while shit stomping any random encounter and forced battle that gets in your way. The only "real" challenge comes from gyms and The Elite Four while everything is just a place holder for those parts of the games causing them to zig-zag its difficulty curve with no real idea on what the Hell is going on. The grinding and battles with other trainers aren't even there to help you learn how to handle the mechanics for when you do reach those challenging parts of the games. With the constant grinding just to power level your Pokemon into demigods, there's no real thinking on strategy since your Pokemon are just so leveled that they can OHK anything that looks at them funny. Even the weakness circle takes a back seat if you spend enough time going back in forth in bushes and wreck enough Pleb level Pokemon. Even battles in the Gyms basically turn into "Use the same Pokemon that has an advantage over them or Power Grind to an easy victory." Not to mention half way through the course of going through Gyms they become easy as hell since you've made enough money off trainer battles that you can just buy enough items so your Pokemon can not lose in any situation. You can't trip over a pile of money without being given more money to buy things. Along with the fact that you can create your own team with the use of a PC, your Pokemon's weaknesses are invisible if you can hide it behind enough items used to ignore their weakness. It's just roid raging your already buffed as Hell monsters. The games just give you a complete advantage over everybody. With such boring, stagnant gameplay I can not recommend this series to anybody, and I am utterly shocked that people honestly play these games. Pokemon is a terrible series, and anyone who plays the games are supporting the death of Video gaming. Thank you, and good day.

  • All I got from this thread is "I don't like it, so that means it's bad". This thread is retarded, just like you OP.

      • I don't like Pokémon either (especially the show), but you're making a bad argument, or at least an incomplete one. You're establishing an arbitrary standard and showing all the ways Pokémon doesn't meet your standard. That's easy, but not applicable universally in the way you seem to want it to be. You need to spend more time arguing what a good game is or should be, and then why anyone should care. I'd help you but I don't feel like doing all that work right now.

      • Pokemon is an absolutely disgusting franchise, and one that should be shunned by all members of civilized society. Pokemon encourages animal cruelty and abuse. It teaches children that it is okay to stuff animals into extremely small containers, and to train them to attack other animals for nothing more than money and personal amusement. Pokemon is sickening. The fact that it is as popular as it is today is a testament to how low society has sunken. People should be condemning the developers of these games, not praising them. But alas, the unwashed masses will continue to eat up these games. You're welcome.

The perfect analogue to the pokemon phenomenon is minecraft. It's so widely praised and enjoyed because nobody else can develop a worthy equivalent (its more that nobody tries). If you want a FPS shooter, you have CoD, BF, Halo, Killzone, HL, and the list goes on forever. If you want a monster catching game - well you just have Pokemon. If you want a game where you build shit from cubes and kill creeps - well there's minecraft.
Pokemon Y day 1, what are you going to do about it?
I honestly stopped giving a crap about Pokemon, after I turned 10. It used to be fun to get that link-cable connected with a friend's Gameboy, and either exchange or battle each other, but that was it. I really don't see why adults are actually still playing this mindless grinding game. I mean, my 19 year old friend is still playing it, and so are some others. The worst part is, that they won't shut up about it.

                        • It's also basically dog fighting if you think about it. Even worse if you consider all the pokemon sentient and capable of learning human behavior and language like Meowth, then its slavery.
