People for some reason think they would want entire planets explorable. That doesn't even sound cool. Good luck finding other players spread out over 9 planets when there are only thousands of players on at one time. If this game becomes extremely popular, I only see like 100k people on at any given time on any console, I doubt you would find anybody if they were all spread out on 9 different planets that are each the size of an actual planet.
Just thinking about that idea is silly. It won't happen and you wouldn't even like it, trust me.

Dude it wont be all 9 planets. Only just Earth, Mars, and its moons
-
Why don't Jupiter's moons count? What about Saturn's?
-
they could work too. Since those moons are far away from the sun, then they might be icy or snowy, like in the above pic.

This is why you have hubs where there are places to go. By your logic, you should never run in to people in WoW unless you're on a highly populated server, which is untrue.
-
WoW isn't the size of 9 planets. Of course you're going to run into people. You think you're going to run into people on an area the size of an actual planet? I don't think you know how big a planet is man. Plus, do you really think Bungie would be able to create unique areas on the sheer scale of a whole planet? That's like impossible man. Are you like 15? I don't think you understand how this would even work. I mean seriously, think about being in Destiny and being able to go to every single area of earth. With all the forests, trees, mountains, rivers, buildings, citys, AIs to populate those citys, every single unique landscape. Am I the only person who seriously thinks this is the stupidest idea ever?

I didn't suggest whole planets. Did you read the OP?
-
That's still too much land. I hope you understand that too much explorable land is a bad thing.
-
I disagree... too much explorable land is a never a bad thing... I do agree that this is likely impossible, though they could do randomly generated endless areas.

Humanity isn't going to take back the whole solar system in one go. The game will probably focus on certain planets, and then open up new ones to explore.

Again, things in between those lands and things along the way from thing to thing so that you aren't just literally going across vast stretches of land. Obviously I'm not suggesting Bungie make a hiking simulator. There could be outposts in between that you can visit and "quest" around, as it were. There could be areas where battles are taking place with the aliens. There could be places to go do fun, non-game things like buy and sell gear, etc. There's an innumerable amount of things one could put in the game so you're not just walking from place to place for hours on end. Have you played Assassin's Creed 2? All the cities put together in that game (save San Gimignano because I can't find dimensions of it from the time period) add up to about 60 square miles. And that's just Assassin's Creed 2. Not even a game like WoW with the incredibly amounts of free-roam that it's known for. And there's no huge areas where nothings going on in AC2, and if there are, there's a place that stuff IS going on right next door. 700 square miles, in the grand scheme of things, is easily achievable, especially when it's split up between several celestial bodies and there's plenty of "things to do" put in between the blank spaces (where there'll still probably always be enemies to kill).
