Nicholas has been surrounded by a sea of sibling faces his whole life (sure it's been only 3 1/2 days, but no one has frowned at him yet) but he only smiles when he farts. It's cute, he gets this look of furious concentration, lefts his knees to his chest, and lets fly. They can be heard across the NICU. The nurses thought it was me until he did it bare assed when they changed his diaper.
This is the only time he smiles. Right after crop using everyone. They don't stink, yet.

Because farting is fun at young ages.

OT: Farting is a universal joy. His farts won't stink until he begins eating meat or similarly difficult to digest foods.

I read that as smell for some reason.

He's a guy.

release of pressure, like when you have a big dump brewing, and when released its like a wave of relaxation goes over you.

Dude, I'm not sure either. When my son was born, he would fart and kind of smile. Only a bit due to him being intubated (ECHMO/Life Support)
-
Because it tickles and what guy doesn't appreciate a good fart?
-
time to try out that hide button

LOL, don't worry, they'll smell rank soon enough.

Farts are always funny; no matter the age.

It's not just babies. Ever heard the phrase "I'm not smiling, it's just wind"?
-
I only ever smile when I fart too, so it must be an instinct thing.
-
Hahaha. Cute. ^_^
-
Cause it feels good. You can't tell me it doesn't feel good to play the tushy trumpet after the pressure has been building up inside you for a while.

Gratz on your adoption I"m assuming?

The gas makes them uncomfortable, and relieving it is satisfying!

Even babies know farts are funny.
