I'd just like to point out that while he makes that point, he also makes the reverse point.

He wants to know why some of the most educated people in America still follow a deity, and that's a valid point. If some of the smartest people follow a deity, there has to be [i]some sense[/i] to it, otherwise they wouldn't be following it either.

At that level of science, the choice to believe in a deity is essentially a coin flip. The answer is irrelevant, so you just choose a side. For example, I believe that the beginning of the universe was a direct result of concious action. That's the extent of my belief. The difference between and atheist and my personal brand of deism is two letters (unconcious).
