They would have to be instrumental to the start of the apocalypse, but not in a cool Black Mesa type way - more in a "caffeine overdose, press the wrong button, delete all files" type way. Bungie not releasing their next game due to such a fault would surely destroy civilisation as we know it. If for no other reason than the Bnet Community would likely make it their sole goal to lay waste to the Earth.
