I'm both a Muslim and a Paleontologist, but at my core I am a deist.

How can you be a Muslim and a deist? One would think these two religious view would conflict.

Edited by kgj: 1/24/2013 12:07:35 AMA) Deism is not a religious view. B) I turn to Islam for peace and solitude, which it gives me. However, I am a scientific man at my core, and it's my way of looking at the universe. Islam provides me with a moral guideline. C) I don't always agree with the moral guidelines it provides, however (ex. laws against women, laws against homosexuals)

So you are not actually religious, but agree with the moral guidelines of Islam?
-
I find solitude in it. I practise Islam for that very reason. Yes, there are things that I disagree with it on, but many of these can be dismissed with simple equivocation. And I am a scientific man (I ask more questions, I don't make answers), but I don't doubt that Islam's view of the universe could be a possibility (as could every other religion). Basically, I'm religious, but I don't allow my beliefs to get in the way of my method of thinking.

Alright. I was just trying to get an understanding of your view point.
-
Of course. What about you? What stance do you take on this?

I'm a Christian, but I have no issue with science. Heck, I love science. Really the only issue I have is when it comes to evolution, but this is just one aspect of a while process. I have no issues believe in science and the Bible.

but those things are contradictory

What's Deist?

Edited by Cat: 1/23/2013 4:00:47 PMA deist is one who essentially thinks an intelligent creator was responsible for creating everything, but doesn't believe that said creator continues to actively influence the world. To throw in another little factoid, most founding fathers of the US were deists.
