Marathon 2: Durandal Video walkthrough-ish thingy [COMPLETED]
Well, the old adage goes that a picture is worth a thousand words. So I was thinking about doing some movies of Durandal to help people out. So how much is a movie worth? Recon's mum says hers are worth $19.99 for each vid with a option to cancel at any time. I think I'll make my walk through vids for free...
Alright, I know that Durandal can be a little confusing sometimes, and it's easy to get lost amongst the bright shiny Marathon goodness. So while I was playing today, I took the time to record everything. Typically the vids only show the quickest ways to get through the levels. They are by NO means complete walk-throughs. However, if you happen to get stuck on a certain part, come to this thread and download the chapter you need help with and maybe you'll find what you need.

Well as some of you may know that Mythica, the site I was using to host these videos went down a few months ago. So while I was at PAX this past weekend I ran into Louis Wu of Halo.Bungie.Org fame and asked about if he was able to salvage them before Mythica went under. He said he did, and so here they are!!!
All links should work 100% fine now. If you get a problem, feel free to post in the thread and I'll see what's going on. I downloaded the 1st and Last vid and both worked fine so I'm hoping the rest are the same.[/b][/i][/u]

I did that within 2 or 3 days. The problem really came in the conversion of it mpegs and then uploading it to Mythica. Most of the time I would multi-task and while I was "making" one vid, I'd be uploading the previous one. It took about a week and a half to get all of them done and uploaded to Mythica. It probably would have went quicker...but I was busy pushing Achilles into the lava pits on 10,000 feet under. I really wanted to make the vids because I played Cathedra for hours one night (actually with Achilles also) and we couldn't figure out what to do in the level. We seriously probably spent hours looking at where to hook the "chip" up to. And then......we learned there was also a "swim" button. Yeah, we were that bad. ~B.B.

usually when i get a new game i beat the whole thing on easy first so i get the storyline then i go back and beat it on the hardest difficulty and skip the cut-scenes.

The second game in the Marathon series that Bungie made before moving on to Halo. It was released on XBL Arcade a couple months ago. Thank you so much for the guide. In fact if it weren't for your walkthrough on the Ex Cathedra level, my xbox would probobaly be on the bottom of a lake right now. And it's ridiculous that I couldn't do that level on my own, because what I missed was so obvious.

Ex Cathedra is somewhat of a confusing level and it's the first one that I ran into trouble with when playing through Durandal. It gets tremendously easier as soon as you figure out there is a "swim" button. Yeah...I didn't realize there was a swim button....*pouty face* Glad you liked the guide and glad you liked Durandal. It's a kickass game and I love that people are enjoying it. ~B.B.

The Security Officer (the main character in Marathon) wears a Mjolnir Mark 4 armor. He constantly talks to "moody" A.I.. He kills aliens with fun weapons. Marathon is the series that got Bungie's feet wet for making the Halo series. There are things that are "homages" in Halo that are from Marathon. So they aren't exactly related directly, but they share a lot of similar things. Hope that gives you an answer to your question. ~B.B.

You have fun weapons like the pistol, SMG, plasma pistols, shotguns (dual shotties FTW!), Rocket launchers, flame throwers, etc. The enemies have similar "caste" systems like in Halo. There are a lot of things in Marathon that when you see it, you'll say "this is the predecessor of (Insert Object) in Halo". Although the game was made back in the mid-90's, you can still have a lot of fun playing it. The Survival mode will give you plenty of challenge trying to beat your best high score or your friends high score. So if you have some MS points laying around and are looking for a new Arcade game, M2:D is definitely worth checking out. ~B.B.

Me playing M2:D though could be an issue though. My 360 RROD and I got a replacement one. I've been having trouble with all of my XBLA games saying that I haven't purchased the full version. If I get that problem fixed, I'd be happy to help you with that one. Funny story though now that I think about it. I waited up to download M2:D the night/early morning it came out on XBL. So I download it as soon as it's available and I decide to jump in some MP deathmatches. So I'm playing some games and these guys keep showing everyone where this or that is on the maps and explaining some things. So I ask them, "wow, the game has only been out for 5 minutes and you guys already know where everything is? You must have played it back in the day". "Nope, we're from Freeverse (the developer)". And sure enough they were because I got the 7th Column achievement when I killed one of them. They were some tremendously nice guys. Another sidenote: downloads for all the vids has past the 1500 mark and it seems like they all get a couple people each week. I'm glad they are still going strong. ~B.B.

I felt pretty stupid after it, but I was so relieved to be done with that level so it balanced out. Glad the vids helped you out. ~B.B.
